It takes a special kind of moron to rip off a famous speech and use it for a stump speech in a presidential election. Until he was caught, Biden was doing pretty well delivering Neil Kinnock's lines. I will admit that compared to Barack Obama's trail of shady dealings with even shadier characters, Biden has a very clean record. Democrats seem to enjoy trying to get ethically challenged candidates elected president.

You mean like McCain's recent speech where he plagiarized a wikipedia entry on Georgia, or where McCain came up with the slogan "a leader we can believe in" after Obama's "change you can believe in" campaign slogan had begun much earlier.

Heck, even Cindy McCain got busted for lifting recipes off a Food Network website earlier this year and submitting them to a newspaper as "family recipes." They were quickly removed from the story after the media caught wind of it. :lol:

:lol: McCain will not need to go after Biden. Biden is his own worst enemy and Obama is such a weak candidate there will be no need for McCain to concern himself with Biden.

I have spent a lot of time watching Joe Biden arrogantly question witnesses appearing before his committees over the years. He typically uses most of his alloted time chastising witnesses and then he panics when they give anything but a short answer in response.

 

Many US Senators are guilty of this behavior, but as theNew York Times article cited below indicates, Biden is among the worst abusers. Biden's love of his own voice has to be a major concern for the Obama campaign.

The highest ratio of words per panelist to words per nominee was that of Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., Democrat of Delaware, who managed to ask five questions in his 30-minute time allotment.

 

"I understand, Judge, I am the only one standing between you and lunch, so I'll try to make this painless," he began, with some promise.

 

Mr. Biden then dived into a soliloquy on Judge Alito's failure to recuse himself from cases involving the Vanguard mutual fund company, which managed the judge's investments. After 2 minutes 50 seconds - short for the senator - Mr. Biden did appear to veer toward a question, but abandoned it to cite Judge Alito's membership in a conservative Princeton alumni group. Mr. Biden discoursed on that for a moment, then interrupted himself with an aside about his son who "ended up going to that other university, the University of Pennsylvania."

 

Judge Alito, who had been sitting without expression through Mr. Biden's musings, interrupted the senator midword, got out three sentences, then settled in for nearly 26 minutes more of Mr. Biden, with the senator doing most of the talking. With less than a minute to spare, Mr. Biden concluded, thanked Judge Alito for "being responsive," then said to Mr. Specter that "I want to note that for maybe the first time in history, Biden is 40 seconds under his time."

No need. I think that the baby killing issue will be enough to sway quite a few moderates to vote against Obama.

Another example of why Obama's campaign needs to worry about Biden's mouth getting them into trouble. Biden likes to exaggerate events in which he is involved. In describing how dangerous Iraq was, Biden apparently imagined some gunfire aimed in his direction. I think that it is called the Hillary Syndrome. :lol:

 

Republicans have more than 30 years of Biden's words to mine for sound bytes and even for a US Senator, Biden is quite a windbag.

Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) — whose garrulous ways have led to a number of verbal gaffes over the years — has revised a dramatic comment that he was “shot at” in the Green Zone during a trip to Iraq.

 

Biden made the brief comment during the CNN/YouTube Democratic debate two weeks ago, as he was emphasizing how difficult it would be to redeploy U.S. citizens and troops out of Iraq if the U.S. decided to withdraw in six months.

 

“Let’s start telling the truth,” he said. “Number one, you take all the troops out — you better have helicopters ready to take those 3,000 civilians inside the Green Zone, where I have been seven times and shot at. You better make sure you have protection for them, or let them die, number one.”

 

When asked for a detailed account of the experience, Biden described three incidents on two separate Iraq trips in which he felt that he was shot at or might have been shot at. Only one of them took place inside the Green Zone, he said, and involved a “shot” landing outside the building where he and other senators were staying. He added that the vehicle he was traveling in the day before might also have been hit.

 

Biden said the incident happened in the morning while he and at least one other senator were shaving. Although he said it shook the building, he wasn’t rattled enough to duck and cover.

 

“No one got up and ran from the room—it wasn’t that kind of thing,” he said. “…It’s not like I had someone holding a gun to my head.”

 

Thinking about it now, he said, a more accurate comment would have been: “I was near where a shot landed.”

 

Biden aides have provided greater details of the three incidents in an e-mailed account: In December 2005, Biden and his staff spent the night in the Green Zone. At about 6:30 a.m., they heard mortars fired a few hundred yards away, which shook the aides’ trailer and rattled the building where Biden was getting ready for the day.

I've been thinking about this off and on all day. I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Biden a few years ago in Delaware. He is very much the stereotypical politician, and is certainly not lacking in self-confidence. :lol:

 

I genuinely believe this will come back to bite Obama hard, and is great news for the Republican side.

 

Dems can defend Biden all day long. Biden can roll up his sleeves and do Obama's dirty work in attacking McCain. And yes, no republicans will vote for Biden... but neither will a significant percentage of so-called independents who believed in Obama's message of "Change". The whole idea of change kinda falls flat when the veep to be has been a senator 10 years longer than old man McCain has been in Washington

 

Biden's been in the senate since 1973 (35 years.)

McCain first became a Representative in 1983, and a senator in 1987.

 

Kinda defeats the whole angle of framing McCain as part of the old school Washington establishment. :lol:
