Biden has accepted $5,133,072 in contributions from lawyers and lobbyists since 2003. Biden’s son works as a lobbyist on Capitol Hill, amassing the kind of earmarks that Obama has condemned.

August 23, 200818 yr Biden is a solid pick and exemplifies how the Russia-Georgia crisis has shaped this campaign. Had Obama not projected a lack of understanding in his response, Senator Bayh would have been on the ticket. Though people too often are caught up on selecting a running mate that will deliver a swing-state during an election - that strategy rarely pans out, yet, Bayh was a lock for Indiana. Biden is credentialed with foreign policy experience, is a skilled orator and debater, and can carry out the campaign’s attacks naturally. He does, however, have a proclivity for speaking before thinking, and he is a Senator, as they tend to have a particularly hard time on national tickets. On the other hand, the Obama campaign fumbled the text message. They should have delivered it during the early evening while people were still awake and immediately followed it with an announcement. It sort of loses its effect in the wee hours of the morning.

August 23, 200818 yr I like Biden... I know the majority on here and in this state is Repub but Biden is a straight shooter tell it how it is, something you don't see as much in politics now. Biden is that father in law that you don't want. Don't try to sugar coat him.

Reason #4 I agree with all of Romney's criticisms of McCain in these videos, but do you think Obama is going to air a campaign ad criticizing McCain for voting against the Bush tax cuts? I don't think so. Even when McCain lied about Romney's position on Iraq timetables, Romney's response was very restrained. Biden's public statements are a target rich environment for McCain's campaign. Romney has been much more intelligent and respectful in his public comments about McCain. Biden OTOH is a loose cannon and a gas bag who loves to hear himself talk.

If we are assuming that McCain is, in fact, going to choose Romney (whom I would place at 3rd on my list, though maybe higher after the Biden pick), and we are also assuming McCain has already made this decision, and we are also assuming that more than a few top aides know, and we are also assuming that they are loquacious about it, and we are also assuming said gossipy aides haven't stumbled into a reporter interested in the story, then your comment would be a lot less funny.
August 23, 200818 yr It would not be wise for McCain to pick Romney. I think McCain will go with someone that is much safer. Still guessing Pawlenty, but how would Condi Rice smack you?
