They will be tough.....IMO last year means nothing.......the AAU competetion they have been playing is definately several levels above high school ball.....they are competeting very well this summer against the AAU competetion.

 

I agree. They competed well last year as juniors and finished 26-4. Also remember that Timmy Knipp was just a FRESHMAN. Now they are seasoned seniors and have competed basket for basket with some of the top national players in AAU ball this summer. They will not see this type of player (or at least the whole starting five) in 16th region play. They will see it at the Myrtle Beach Beach Ball Classic after Christmas. That tournament features 9 of the Top 100 players in the nation and has all the top coaches in the country attending. The Summer AAU play and Myrtle Beach should get them ready for the All A tourney and then the regionals and state. There is also still the possibility that they will play Clark County in the KY Bank Classic on December 20th at Bourbon County. Mason will travel to Sandy Hook in late Feb. All this should contribute to them being battle tested and ready to make a run come March 2009. Also, Timmy Knipp has played exceptional 15U AAU ball this summer and also got an invite and attended the UK Elite Camp. Jody Demling (courier-journal) watched a game of his in Cincinnati and said he dominated in his blog. Said he shot the ball well from three and showed the ability to drive and finish at the basket. Also played good defense and rebounded well inside against 6'7" and 6'8" national players.

I would love to see Elliot Co play Holmes. Final Four I would like to see next year at Rupp.

Elliot Co, Holmes, Scott Co and GRC. Now that would be an awesome group.

Manual was without Tony Kimbro Jr all summer due to a wrist injury, but Manual still looked strong. And yes, he will be back and there won't be a better tandem in the state than Jacob Jenkins and Kimbro. Manual may end up playing the state's toughest schedule to boot.

 

Then there is North Hardin with Greg Johnson and Larod King another top tandem with a loaded lineup. Greg Johnson returns after sitting out a full season.

 

J'town won the 7th region last season and returns everyone but Gagel and adds Cosby. They defeated Scott County over the summer too.

 

These teams won't get much hoopla on BGP since there's only a few members from the 5th and 7th regions that post here, but they do pose a legit threat for the state title this year.

I'm not sure if there is already a thread I didn't see one, but with Brandon Housely Being granted his eligabililty at Holmes, Does this cement Holmes and Scott County as the far and away teams to beat in KY? Can anybody challenge them for the state Title?

 

Does anyone know why Housely transfer to Holmes? Housely is a good kid and works hard it just caught me off guard when I heard he transfered.

When the juniors played the seniors at Mason County prior to the KY-IN games, I said at the time that the most pleasant surprise on the junior squad was Jenkins. Manual and J-Town both should give anyone in the state all they can handle.

I am really happy that Mr. Housely has been ruled eligible. Really, I don’t think any kid should suffer because some adults can’t play by the rules.

 

I don’t know his full story or reason for moving, but if I'm not mistaken, he began his H.S. career at Holy Cross, then transferred to Cov. Cath following his freshman year, and is now at Holmes with a chance to help them earn a Regional Title.

 

There is no doubt that he is an impact player in NKY and it’s hard for me to believe that he and his family don’t consider athletics “in whole or part” in their moves. The fact that he has been eligible at two NKY power programs, with his last move not more than 5 miles from Newport to Holmes causes me to wonder:

 

How is it that Euton's Dad lost his job and moved the whole family 130 miles and is ineligible after three months in the system and Housely moves five miles to his third high school and is ruled eligible in the same week his application hit the KHSAA?

Here's a quick highlight of Manual's 36-point win over Louisville Trinity where Jenkins hit 8 straight treys leading to a 38-point outing. Not bad with nine stitches over his right eye from the previous game. When Manual has all their pieces clicking, they'll be tough.

Jenkins looks to have a sweet stroke, but you can't win with just two kids. If Kimbro doesn't play, Jenkins can't do it all by himself. Losing what I think was one of the best point guards in the state (Williams), leaves a big void. I heard the center is still pretty raw as well. Make no mistake though, Jenkins looks to be the real deal. He may even be the front runner for Mr. Basketball. Can he bring Manual to Rupp next year?
