July 25, 200818 yr You need to take a different approach to this argument because they one the you are trying to make is very weak.
July 25, 200818 yr I don't think you'll find a post by me saying "you can't replace his numbers" so you can go talk to someone else about that. It didn't help that no one else on the team was hitting either. It wasn't just Dunn. Dunn is an 8 year vet that drags down way more money than all but JR, and you are speaking of him comparitively with with these other guys?
July 25, 200818 yr You need to take a different approach to this argument because they one the you are trying to make is very weak. OK. Do you think it is OK for Dunn to tank for extended periods of time the way he has?
July 25, 200818 yr Dunn is an 8 year vet that drags down way more money than all but JR, and you are speaking of him comparitively with with these other guys? Dunn has never hit higher than .266. His career average is .247. This year he is hitting .237. But yet his OBP is .389. I'm gonna go ahead and say thats in the upper portion of the league. Dunn is a power hitter with a very good eye at the plate. You can't expect him to go out and hit .280 every year. I wish he'd hit .260 every year but that also won't happen. When a guy gets on base almost 40% of the time he's doing something right.
July 25, 200818 yr Yeah its OK for him to slump just like everyone else. I am done with this discussion. We have done this like 10 times now.

July 25, 200818 yr You forgot another constant. the Reds will be watching in October. A lot of teams that are playing in October would gladly take Arroyo as their 4th starter...
July 25, 200818 yr There are a lot of teams that would like to have a player like Adam Dunn. Maybe he doesn't hit for average, but he drives in runs, gets on base, plays everyday, etc. For those that bash Dunn, do you also bash Edwin? He has extended bad streaks at the plate like Dunn. He hits a little higher average but less homeruns. His defense isn't great but its improving.
July 25, 200818 yr Again, can this club win with this sort of inconsistency from their number 1 producer? He's their #1 producer because everyone else is inconsistent as well. We keep Dunn, get rid of the .239 hitting Griffey in the 3-hole and replace him with Bruce (in right field) and a decent centerfielder (I would say Hairston, but I don't know when his career numbers will catch up with him) and this lineup looks completely different.
July 25, 200818 yr Dunn needs a guy like a Vlad Guerrero hitting in front of him. I'd love to see Jocketty go after him in the winter (but it's unlikely he'd come to Cincy).

Just curious why you say he needs someone like that hitting in front of him? Usually in baseball people talk about players hitting behind each other for protection reasons.

E-5 is younger and still has the word potential attached to him.$$ have a lot to do with it.

July 25, 200818 yr With Vlad in front of Dunn, you can guarantee that Vlad would be pitched around. And you can guarantee that Dunn will have 40+ home runs. And maybe those "meaningless" solo shots will evolve into "game changing 2-run blasts".
