Yeccchhh! The moribund Reds can't seem to get out of their own way.

The 'critical' homestand post-All Star Break can only be salvaged at 5-5

with a win Sunday. Are they in it or are they a roster waiting for major

turnover?

At least they got us to training camp....

These two losses to the Rockies have pretty much put a fork in the Reds.

Thats funny:lol:

Whats scaring me, is we have the trade dead line fast approaching and the Reds haven't budged. Are they planning on standing pat?

What do you want them to do Mr. GM? I think the end up moving Weather or Affelt and that might be it.

Gee. My bad. Please forgive me. What was I thinking? You're right. Why move anyone on this team. Their awsome! They should keep everybody

13 free agents on the horizon. Either way it goes, the 09 Reds will be much different than this version...

I don't know. 33,000 in attendance yesterday. An awful lot of fans on here seem to think the current version is pretty good. All kinds of talk of wild card and big series and must wins. Quite a few on here think this team has a shot.

We've been having this conversation for quite some time now. For a fan that REALLY cares if this team wins or not, I'm pretty much sick and tired of the same old, same old.

Tell me who they should trade please. They have their solid young core that isn't going anywhere. Then you have Dunn and Griff that might be gone at the end of the year. They aren't going to trade Dunn when they can either sign him long term or get 2 first round draft picks for him if he walks. No one is taking Griff without the Reds eating a lot of the salary and it just doesn't make sense for anyone to take him and it doesn't make sense for the Reds to eat any of that contract. That pretty much covers the Offense and the starting pitching isn't going anywhere. Maybe maybe Arroyo but I don't see it happening and I don't think people really want Homer right now. That leaves the Bullpen everyone needs some solid bullpen guys down the stretch. The Reds can find someone to over pay for Affelt or Weathers and get a young prospect in return. Trust me I want them to win as bad as you do but nothing they will do right now makes this team a playoff team. They just need more experience.

Experience? You really have two field players that will improve with experince:

Votto, and Bruce. E-5 is maybe in there. Add BP and you have 4 in your "core" group. Assuming the pitching staff remains pretty much pat. The Reds need 2 OFers a C and a SS. Plus bench players which are severely lacking right now. Can they fill these nees in FA? If Dunn stays at what will be a hefty salary, will they then have payroll to bring top notch players at these postitions or is it the same crap we've been subjected to for the entire decade? I don't think experience is the complete issue. There has to eventually be a time when the players and there ineptness need to be addressed. That won't happen until all the sheep finally wake up, and stop supporting them. 33,000 at the old ballyard yesterday last night, and all the optimism on boards such as this suggest that realization is not upon us yet.

IMO, SS isn't a major need. Neither is the bench really. All of the Reds quality bench players are on the DL right now. Freel, Hopper, Hairston...all will be bench players next season in my mind. They do need some pop off the bench but thats it. I'd like for them to see what Ryan Hanigan can do at the Major League level. He may fill the need for a catcher while the first round pick from last year develops.

I'll agree about SS, if they can fill the other positions with above average players. Bad idea to count on the 3 bench player you named. All bat RH, all are Punch and Judy hitters, and all are injury prone. Not what I want on my bench.

BTW nice job by Fogg, to overcome an error and 2 SBs:thumb:
