Went to the Reds game against the Padres and we were discussing if it's even possible to hit the Tundra. I vote no. That's pushing 600 feet...

His stats haven't fallen off too much, although he's no longer a threat to steal 40 bases. I just don't see him fitting in Cincinnati - he's 32 and would be getting Griffey-like type $$$$. We'd have to keep Bruce in CF, which is not his natural position. And we'd be locking up a guy who spent the 1st 8 years of his career playing on that awful turf in Montreal...

Griffey was a premier player when we traded for him too. Griffey was only 31 at the time, though. I don't mind the money thing either; however, when you're trying to win as a small-market team (like the Reds claim to be doing) then you cannot be overpaying closers and afford a free agent as expensive as Vladdy. I like where your head's at, though.
July 25, 200818 yr 1. No way the tundra can be hit in its current location. 2. The Reds can and will win with Adam Dunn long term but the offensive philosophy has to change in many ways. As you all know we live and die by the HR. We have to put players in place that can manufactuer more runs as well as have people that can be productive off the bench. With Dunn, Griffey, EE, Bruce, and Ross this line up we have way to much strike out potential. We also have to many left handed hitters come the late innings when the opposition brings on their own lefty. 3. I would like to see the Reds somehow get Salty from Texas as well as Street from Oakland.

He could be a big part of the big DR movement the Reds seem to be in the middle of. But as I said before, it is indeed unlikely. Still, if Jock makes intimations, and Castellini has shown he's willing to open the pocketbook, it's nice to know the Reds will at least make the effort toward big FA signings, which is unlike the past.

July 25, 200818 yr While we're increasing our budget, I hope that we can re-sign Adam Dunn. I've been back-and-forth on whether to trade him, let him walk or re-sign him. I think we need to keep him around and get another big bat and a solid centerfielder. This team isn't too far from being a bigtime contender, IMO.
