July 22, 200818 yr Updated list of teams I've looked at: Duke 485 (All Americans added in through 2000) Kansas 398 (No All Americans added) North Carolina 381 (No All Americans added) Kentucky 357 (complete) Connecticut 289 (No All Americans added) Arizona 278 (No All Americans added) UCLA 246 (No All Americans added) Michigan State 197 (No All Americans added) Florida 170 (No All Americans added) Did you account for the seemingly dozens of first-round losses to lower-seeded teams Mr. Olsen has on his resume? I'm thinking they miss the top 10 because of that.

July 22, 200818 yr I'll be interested to see where UC falls. 14 years of big time conference domination under Huggs... Since 1984-1985 the Bearcats made the NCAA Tournament 14 times (all under Huggy/all in a row). No tournament success from 84-92. 1 Final 4 2 Elite Eights 1 Sweet Sixteen 8 Second Round Losses 2 First Round Losses 8 Conference Titles during the time period.

No tournament success from 84-92. 1 Final 4 2 Elite Eights 1 Sweet Sixteen 8 Second Round Losses 2 First Round Losses And some solid points for finishing 1st in CUSA time and time again with several seasons over 30 wins...

July 22, 200818 yr For a while, the domination. By the end, it was high quality, and the domination decreased... Not terribly unlike UK's domination over an historically weak SEC.
July 22, 200818 yr Id say the next tier after my top 5 would be: UCLA Florida Arizona Syracuse Mich St IMO though Duke, UNC, UK, and Kansas are head and shoulders above everyone else. I think most would agree, with the addition of UCLA, that these 5 programs are the top programs in the country!!
July 22, 200818 yr Where would teams like UNLV and Gtown land under the point system. I have no idea but they did have some good runs in the 80's and 90's. I always loved to see Tark chewing on his towel!!!
July 22, 200818 yr Not terribly unlike UK's domination over an historically weak SEC. Final Four appearances by conference over this period: ACC - 22 (4 different teams) Big10 - 16 (7 teams) SEC - 14 (5 teams) Big East - 12 (8 teams) Big12 - 12 (4 teams) Pac10 - 9 (3 teams) That puts the SEC 3rd in both total appearances, and number of different teams represented.
July 22, 200818 yr Did you account for the seemingly dozens of first-round losses to lower-seeded teams Mr. Olsen has on his resume? I'm thinking they miss the top 10 because of that. The criteria was first round losses to 12-16 seeds. They had four of those, which cost them 8 points.
July 22, 200818 yr UK has been a top team during those years, although they haven't enjoyed much success in the postseason. Their regular season success will make up for it, and I'd guess they'll be 3rd on the list, although I haven't given this much thought. So you are saying in the last 5 years UK has been a top tier team?

And that has nothing to do with what I posted. All I did was note the correlation between UC's conference dominance and UK's, and how once the rest of the conference got better, that dominance waned. UC's time span of dominance over its conference was shorter than UK's, however.

All I did was note the correlation between UC's conference dominance and UK's, and how once the rest of the conference got better, that dominance waned. If that was the case, they wouldn't have put 4 teams other than UK in the Final Four. Would you say UK dominated the SEC in the mid 90's? Arkansas, Florida, and Miss St. all went to the Final Four between 94 and 96. I wouldn't say thats a weak conference.

You're not paying attention to what I've been saying. Historically, UK has dominated the SEC. The league got a lot better in the '90s. Since then, UK's dominance has declined. It's not a weak conference any more, but historically it has been a one-trick pony, with an occasional second banana stepping up and having a good year (think LSU's FF teams in the '80s), but none of them able to sustain it long-term the way UK has.
