My personal opinion is that if the KHSAA is ruling kids athletically ineligible because their parents were spouting off to the media and other kids eligible because their parents did not, then the KHSAA has more issues than I thought...

 

The fact that that is exactly what appears to be the case is why the KHSAA or at least the KHSAA bylaws are suspect.

 

Some have said that the Eutons selected Scott for the purpose of "Athletic Gain". It would be hard to argue that since the he already has a scholarship to next level.

 

In the other case people have said "... he did not have much help at the former school and this is a good move to show his talents" (paraphrased). So is this move for "gain"?

 

For the record I would like to see both eligible and not use arbitrary and capricious bylaws or case studies to generate arbitrary and capricious rulings. Unfortunately, due to the "ban 'em all and let the commisioner sort them out" bylaw the commissioner is in a tough job of enforcement and must at times ban Kentucky children from playing sports to keep some face and some credibility.

I agree, I wonder if the kid was on the academic team and was very good at math if he would be ineligable. What's the difference why you want to switch schools. If the parents are willing to move to that school district, I'd say that they had a very good reason. It is a free country still, right?

According to Mr. Euton he said they were not moving because of basketball. They were moving because he was going to lose his job in that area. The family may have chose Scott Co. for basketball, but they were already going to have to move.

Mr. Euton was loud and proud about having to move... it was like an agent pushing his player. I have never seen Goldsmith going to the media and talking about his situation a single time. Barring, Boone Goldsmith has not committed to play for one of the top football programs in the country, so the media hasn't been as aware.

 

The bottom line is my impression was that Mr Euton knew that there are plenty of town across the commonwealth with large businesses supported by wealthy UK fans who also support their local high school. You throw your bait out there, the bites will come.

Lose your job...find an excellent job immediately elsewhere , and it just so happens to be where your high profile basketball playing son can attend a school with a noted history of high profile basketball transfers, and join his teammate who had recently transferred as well.

 

I am as big of a UK fan as they come, but I even I will say something stinks in that situation. Especially when I have quite a few good friends who live in Georgeton who are well versed int he doings of not only Scott County HS, but the business community as well.

I can't verify this yet, but I think this is a moot point. I have heard that the young man in question here is no longer going to be attending Boyle County.

The situation though seems legit from what I understand as far as his company closing down their Ashland offices. He is still with the same company in Lexington. I don't see what the issue is there. Then he decided to live in Scott Co where there is a great basketball program. I can't blame him. I also can't blame the Goldsmith's for moving to Boyle Co. where there happens to be a great football program.

Parents have no job yet and he is not practicing. They may be leaving the Central Kentucky area to find a job somewhere else. From what I hear, Coach Goldsmith is having problems locating a job in the school system and his wife isn't having much luck either.

As I said yesterday, I almost certain that Boone is practicing with Boyle. I've been hearing from our neighbor's kid, which is a freshmen player, that Boone has been looking real good in practice.

Who is denying them their freedom? The kid can move to and attend any public school in Kentucky. No one is saying that he can't attend school.

I don't think double standard is the right way to describe this action by the KHSAA. Just because someone (anyone) else stuck their foot in their mouth about why they were transferring doesn't mean there is any kind of double standard being applied.

 

One could argue there is a "right way" and a "wrong way" to transfer and in this case the family did it the "right way."

 

As a matter of fact, I think this speaks well of the KHSAA because they are not falling prey to what everyone believes "they know."

 

I agree. This stuff about not having a job waiting doesnt float. What if the man hit the lottery and decided he wanted to live in Boyle County and do nothing? And what if the boy was just a marginal player? Would all this fuss be made? Im not a Boyle fan but fair is fair!!

People, do you honestly think Billy and his wife would quit thier jobs and move to Boyle Co. with the uncertainty of finding a job just so thier son could play football? Get real! LOL I am not putting them down for moving, I think its a good move for him and his family. Lawrence Co. is just not what it was for sports and the reason being is the administration and until that changes, things will stay the same in Louisa.

I thought Boone's mother was recently hired at Junction City Elementary School and that he has been at practice. I have been looking for the story, but I could have sworn I saw in the Advocate Messenger that she was named the teaching staff at Junction City.
