There was a sporting good salesman in the coach's hospitality room and he was from TN. This was the 1st KY state tournament he attended. He said there was no comparison to TN to KY state. He said the atmosphere was unbelievable at Rupp and he was great compared to TN and there classes they have now much less 6.

After all, no one would show up for two state championship games...

 

Attendance and revenue is a horrible excuse IMO...

KY all ready has a classification for basketball: The Class A Tournament and the Sweet 16 (2 championships). IMO, it's time for KY to classify (3 or 4 classes). It must be working in other states since so many of them do it. Maybe the KHSAA needs to look at how and why it works in the other states.

Which is better????? One State Champion? Or Six?

 

I mean it is evident why Kentucky's Sweet 16 is perhaps one of the greatest prep championships in all the land. I mean who would tune into the BCS if all the winners were national champs? That's why the BCS National Championship is great (most cases one champion/I know college football was a poor example but work with me haha) and certainly why the Sweet 16 is even better. One state, one sport, one champion......

 

Long live the Sweet 16 in Kentucky !!!!!!

I don't think there should be 3 or 4 classes. I think 2 would be enough, especially in the beginning. Again, the fact that Silver Grove is competing with Ryle to win the same state championship is a joke...

Classes need to happen. Trotting out the once-a-generation Cinderella story as a reason to deny 3/4 of the teams any chance at a title is no defense. However, that being said, it probably won't change as long as the KHSAA money machine is in control.

I agree with that.

 

ONe thing, your actually treated better at the All A than the Sweet 16 when it comes to expenses and room reservations.

No, too much money in Sweet 16 and the powers that influence these type of decisions won't allow it, IMVHO.

 

If the KHSAA (MEMBER SCHOOLS NOT the staff at the KHSAA office) moved to make this move, I think the general assembly behind a public outcry would move to initiate legislation to stop it.

4 classes, 4 teams in the semifinals. How many teams would then make it to Lexington?

 

Let's see 4 X 4 is 16. What do you know? Sweet 16, once again.

Kentucky will not be going now or in the near future to classification. It would ruin a very good thing. Like it or not, the KHSAA is a business, and the Sweet 16 generates too much revenue for the KHSAA to mess with changing it.

 

Government has ruined our schools, has destroyed the small farmer, sent industry to other countries and if basketball in Ky is changed to classes it will also be ruined. A lot of bad decisions have been made within the last 10-15 years by higher officials and we're beginning to see the results of it and it's not good. When the govt takes GOD away from just about everything, we're headed downward. We had better keep him around and stay pretty close.:ylsuper:

I think from talking to people this maybe closer than we think. I think this needs to be done and many important people think the same thing. Don't be suprised if you start hearing some serious talk about this in the next few years.

With that logic, let's have a class for every school that has a unique enrollment size. That way just about everybody can be a state champion.
