June 5, 200818 yr Let's see. Eight years in the Illinois legislature, two years in the national legislature, took a principled stand against the war. How are those for qualifications? The only problem is, they aren't Obama's. They are Abraham Lincoln's. Barak Obama is qualified to be President by virtue of his work to aid the downtrodden of our country. He is qualified because he inspires a generation to the possibilities of service, dedication and hard work. He is qualified because he reminds those of us from an older generation of the power of idealism. He is qualified because he has demonstrated executive ability. No one that has witnessed this campaign can doubt his organisational and executive abilities. You may not agree with WHERE he wants to lead this country, but there can be no doubt of his ABILITY to lead this country.
June 5, 200818 yr He is a great communicator of optimism and hope. In a time when nation needs to feel good about itself again. (Remember Roland Reagan was an actor.) And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.[/Quote]Yep, sounds like a great communicator of optimism and hope alright. Uh huh.
June 5, 200818 yr Barak Obama is qualified to be President by virtue of his work to aid the downtrodden of our country. Please list his achivements in this area, I haven't been able to read them as of yet. He is qualified because he inspires a generation to the possibilities of service, dedication and hard work.Exactly what is it that he does that is so inspiring? He is qualified because he reminds those of us from an older generation of the power of idealism.I'm of that generation, I'm not seeing it. What am I missing? He is qualified because he has demonstrated executive ability. He has? No one that has witnessed this campaign can doubt his organisational and executive abilities. You may not agree with WHERE he wants to lead this country, but there can be no doubt of his ABILITY to lead this country.I can doubt it, running a campaign certainly doesn't show me ability to run the greatest country in the world.

So basically you're saying he's qualified because he wants to take more of my money, that I've worked hard for and earned, and give it to programs that help and aid those who are too lazy to go out and support themselves and their families....No thanks, I don't want any part of that.
June 5, 200818 yr Adolf Hitler was a great communicator and brought about change and unity in his nation when they were in desperate need. Not that I'm comparing Hitler to Obama. Sure seems like you are.
June 5, 200818 yr This is one of the best posts I have seen in a while. You are correct. One of my favorite quotes - "Leadership is not position, it's action". Additionally, I agree with you on needing to look at the actual bill to determine WHY it was voted for/against. For example, the thread that we had not long ago on McCain NOT voting for some funding for military vets. I mean, come on! Why would McCain NOT vote for money for veterans, based on his experience? There were other reasons attached (though I didn't look them up - I didn't have to) as to why he voted the way that he did. I missed this thread - what did McCain vote against for money for veterans?
June 5, 200818 yr I missed this thread - what did McCain vote against for money for veterans? I'm not sure....surely someone else that remembers the details will help us out.
June 5, 200818 yr During a March 2005 Senate budget debate, McCain voted to kill an amendment that would have "increase[d] veterans medical care by $2.8 billion in 2006." That amendment lacked an assured funding stream, but lest one mistake this incident for a maverick's stance against budget-busting, there's more. Just a year later McCain voted against an amendment that would have "increase[d] Veterans medical services funding by $1.5 billion in FY 2007 to be paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes." Two days after it failed, he voted to kill "an assured stream of funding for veterans' health care that [would] take into account the annual changes in the veterans' population and inflation to be paid for by restoring the pre-2001 top rate for income over $1 million, closing corporate tax loopholes and delaying tax cuts for the wealthy." That amendment died quietly, forty-six to fifty-four. LINK
June 6, 200818 yr Thanks, HB! :thumb: I don't necessarily buy into what it says, but there is the issue.
June 6, 200818 yr LINK I thought this was the Obama qualifications thread. Were members asked not to bash Obama in the McCain qualifications thread? I love it when liberals attempt to level the playing field.

June 6, 200818 yr A couple more of Obama's qualifications.... Partial-Birth Abortion “I am extremely concerned that [Gonzales v. Carhart**] will embolden state legislatures to enact further measures to restrict a woman’s right to choose, and that the conservative Supreme Court justices will look for other opportunities to erode Roe v. Wade.” -Sen. Barak Obama **Note: Gonzales v. Carhart is the April 2007 Supreme Court decision upholding the constitutionality of the federal Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. Parental Involvement Law Voted to kill a bill that would have required an abortionist to notify at least one parent before performing an abortion on a minor girl from another state. While I do not want to start a Roe v. Wade debate. IMHO partial birth abortion is an abomination and murder. I in good faith could not support anyone that supports PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION. Link
