This is true, but I don't think most people understand that the issue of abortion is not a presidental decision, but he/she has the power to appoint SC justices who could one day change the ruling on RVW...or appoint ones that keep the decision as is.

Bill Clinton vetoed legislation barring partial birth abortion and George Bush signed a similar bill into law, so sometimes abortion is an issue that the president can influence directly.

I hear what you are saying. However just how many days did George Bush serve in Congress? (I know he was a Governor and that is more experienced but he had none in Washington except as a son.)

That pretty much sums up why I think B Obama should be our next prez.

I've voiced many times my desire to have someone who isn't a career politician as President. At this point, Obama is the closest that comes to my ideal candidate, as far as I can tell. I like the fact that he's younger. I like the fact that he's a speaker who can inspire. I find myself listening when he speaks, because he's electrifying, IMO. There are issues on which I'm not 100% sold of his position, but I'm also not 100% sold on my own position in some.

 

I like the fact that he has brought a new generation of voters out en masse. I can't remember the last election where the youngest voters were so visibly interested in the politics of this country.

 

In a nutshell, I've read his blueprint for change, and overall, I like what I read.

 

I'm not convinced that a long history of political experience is as beneficial as many here are making it out to be. I think we need someone who's arriving with fewer preconcieved notions, with fewer years to have become entrenched in the political games of lobbyists.

 

I'm keeping my options open, but I am not going to eliminate any candidate on the premise that they don't have the experience as some define it. I have a whole different perspective on what I want in a President, and pandering to the establishment isn't exactly what I'm looking for in a candidate.

HHS, that's completely different, and you know it. First of all, I think there's no way anyone is "prepared" to be president, or can "train" to be president. Read the Reagan Diaries. As much as he was "trained", he still struggled with some decisions.

You have a pretty good point, but looking at it from the flip side, do you want a surgeon so "experienced" he may not live long enough to finish your surgery?

Well...the only thing wrong with your analogy is that neither candidate has any experience being president. So, it's like deciding which doctor of orthopedics you want to do your brain surgery.
