Any thoughts on who might be a good candidate for the leadoff role for the Colonels next season? While it helped that Luke got on so much, it hurt in that you lost his bat further down the lineup.

Why not Nutini?

They tried him in the first 7 or 8 games in the beginning of the season. He was not getting on base as much as they had wanted so they moved him down in the lineup.

Exactly, first time in 20 yrs. Normally, if your team reaches the regionals, they are allowed in the rest of the tournament regardless if you are still playing or not.

CCH's CF should have had two errors scored against him. He basically missed two balls hit right at him. There is no way they are hits. The official scorer was being generous. I would bet that both teams score books scored them as EEEEEE's.

Also, why was he so shallow w/Kelly up? He obviously got burned because of that.

And, the NCC LF was playing on the warning track w/CCH's #2 hitter up who hasn't pulled a ball in 10 yrs. Don't these coaches scout the other teams anymore.

Dumb statement about the left fielder. From what I saw this year he comes in on a ball a ton better than going back. Speaking with NCC coaches- they had a great scout on all CovCath batters as well as their starting pitcher Niehaus. Congratulations to Coach Schulkens on a job well done. I'm sure he will thank his staff and players and not take any credit but he did a tremendous job this year keeping his players fresh and making them believe they could win it. :dancingpa

If the CCH coach didn't scare off Shover I believe he could be in this role.

Obviously, you are a football person. Funny, how during the game, I was talking to many NCC fans, who were great athletes and baseball players at NCC, and they agreed. Nobody understood why he was so deep compared to the CF/RF who played about normal depth. CCH has only 3 players in their lineup who will consistantly pull the ball which defensively you would play them straight away. Everyone else will hit the ball to the right side more times than not especially how Connor had everyone off balance the WHOLE NIGHT. Just my opinion but I feel I know just a little about baseball.

Baseball people will understand what I am saying, the rest of you listen up! Being fast from point A to point B isn't being fast in baseball. Being fast in baseball is being able to read the fly ball off the bat of the hitter so you get a good jump on the ball, being able to read the pitcher as to whether he is going to throw to first or go home with the pitch, being fast in baseball is going from 1st to third on a base hit because you can read that it is going to be a hit, and not caught. Nutini has that kind of speed, VanSant doesn't. He is what I call football and track fast, but not baseball fast. Just having track or football speed just doesn't mean you have the baseball skills to use that speed to your advantage. Oh and BTW naming only two players who have any kind of speed sort a makes my point about lack of team speed for CovCath this season.....

Elliott has whatever kind of speed you want to call it! Speed is speed and if you are fast from pt A to pt B it don't hurt when you misjudge a ball coming off the bat. As stated, I did not think any of CCH's OF had what I would call speed. I saw a few balls drop in RC/LC that a kid w/speed would have caught in their back pocket(Elliott, Cotton). NCC's CF made a few good catches last night also.

It was a great game to watch unless you are a CCH fan. At Connor's size I was very impressed he made it thru the entire game and at the plate, very surprised w/the power he showed.

UNC-5 Elliott has baseball speed, and there is no one who can read a ball coning off of the bat in NKy better than him. Just because a man can run fast from A to B doesn't mean he can steal a base or even read where the ball is going to be at. Yes football and track speed can help, but I would rather have Maile running from second base to home on a ball that he can read is going to fall, than a football or track man with speed to burn who just sits and waits to see if the ball is going to drop. He has baseball speed while the other guy's are just fast. There is a huge difference between the two, at least to me.

Well, they need to figure it out. IMO you cannot have Luke Maile leading off. Just like in the Dixie game when there were runners on first and second late in the game when there were two outs, Dixie chose to give him the 4-finger freebie to move the winning run to 3rd just to get to the 2nd batter.

If the bottom of your order is not getting on base on a regular basis, you lose the opportunity for Maile to drive in runs. In addition, while he appears to be a smart baserunner, he's not going to steal 2nd very often so you have to give up an out on a sac bunt to get him there. If the Colonels can come up with a true leadoff guy, they can load up the top 5 slots in their batter order with their best 5 hitters. They can't do that today and it should have cost them against Dixie and it did cost them in the big game.

Good teams won't pitch around guys like Maile just as NCC proved. It was great to see NCC coaching staff just come and play the game agressivley. Hopefully they stay hot for a few more weeks!!! GO BREDS!!!!!:dancingpa

I wouldn't mind Maile hitting leadoff if he had a better bat behind him. That lineup begged teams to pitch around him, and it could have been managed better IMO...

I have to agree, I dont think some of the decisions and things Coach Krumplebeck makes are very wise. CovCath has had the best talent in the region the last 2 years, but they cannot win the region, IMO alot of that is on the coach not just the players.
