Griffey is a major jerk. Marvin Lewis nice guy, Barry Larkin nice guy, Collinsworth nice guy, Alexander nice guy, local celeb Dale Mueller, most down to earth person I have ever met.

To avoid any confusion, I am not referring to the former Duke player. I am referring to the former St. John's player, and a man more famous for a much more negative event.

Jimmy Fallon was both nice and rude when I met him. He was 3 hours late to his stand-up act due to plane problems / weather, but he was very polite and easy to work with. This suprised me as I would be very road weary after the type of day that he had. Unfortunately, after the show on his way out, he rushed through a crowd of his fans, pushing and shoving, not saying a single word or signing a single autograph.

 

Bob Dylan is the rudest person I have EVER met. The group of us setting the stage for his show were told not to look him in the eye and stay out of his way backstage. One volunteer opening and closing the curtain was still trying to close the curtain when Dylan was heading off stage. Dylan pretty much "plowed" through him pretending he wasn't even there. A-1 Jerk!

Several year ago at a North Carolina b-ball camp I got the chance to meet Vince Carter, Jerry Stackhouse, Rasheed Wallace, and Tim Duncan. Vince was the all around nicest athlete ive ever met. Instead of being there just to sign autographs and take pictures, he spent alot of time with the kids playing basketball. Tim Duncan was the all around jerk of the camp, he was scheduled to sign autographs and take pictures but he left within minutes of sitting down to sign and didn't take any pictures when he seen the long line of kids lining up.

I knew a guy who drove a limo that would pick up WWF wrestlers when they were in town. He always said that they were a great bunch of guys and were fun to drive around with one exception. Hulk Hogan.

The driver said he always had his wrestling persona on. He was pretty full of himself. All the other wrestlers were pretty decent guys.

Johnny Bench--a very arrogant self absorbed ....

George Clooney--a pretty normal everyday type of guy.

In defense of Johnny Bench I dont know when each of you had the opportunity to actually meet him but, I do have a picture of a very young Johnny Bench carrying me around the ballpark on his shoulder and another of him actually playing catch with me, he is and will always be a personal friend of our family and maybe you have to know him closely for him not seem like this "arrogant jerk" you call him. Maybe you should give some the benefit of the doubt.:thumb:

Here's a run through with the ones I've run into or dealt with:

 

Bobby Knight - Jerk supreme. Maybe it was because he knew I was reporting for a Lexington station. :lol:

 

Denny Crum - Nice Guy. Treated me with time and courtesy. Same with every UL player I met on that '87 team (Pervis and company)

 

Joe Hall - Nicer guy after he retired. Wound too tight when he was the coach at UK and looked like he would never loosen up.

 

Larry Bird was nice in '78 when he was just a Junior for Indiana State. (He signed my program very nicely as did all the USA World Basketball team people)

 

Jimmy Carter - as pleasant a man as you would want to meet. Very Southern Gentleman-like.

 

Hillary Clinton - Nice but then again this was pre-Monica. She took the time to have her picture made with my son.

 

Johnny Bench - Nice and pleasant when I went to see him at a local charity dinner. Signed things and talked with me without the arrogance I had heard about.

 

Cawood - Super nice and down to earth man.

 

Dale Jarrett - Wonderful guy. Pleasant and interactive with the fans.

 

Jeff Gordon - Okay. Seemed aloof but wasn't nasty or too arrogant.

 

Joe Gibbs - one of my best celeb encounters. I had to introduce him at a speaking engagement. He said, "I want you to introduce me as coach of the 3 time World Champion Washington Redskins."

 

I told him, "That's fine and I was for you on the last two but I'm a lifelong Dolphins fan and your first win was hard for me to take."

 

He replied, "I bet it was. I bet you had nightmares of Riggo running over those fins."

 

I responded, "Yep. About like the ones you must have had of Marcus Allen, huh?" :lol: Gibbs laughed and enjoyed the zinger.
