Sorry there Buster I must be getting a chip on my shoulder, I might want to heed my own words about thin skin.lol You are very correct on tools not being the only thing that matters, the coach I spoke to was very up front on his having the ability but will he see the big picture and understand what type of work goes into being a college athlete.

 

You are exactly right about other factors taken into consideration. My so, for instence, is a good, solid, high school player, but we all know these type kids are a dime a dozen. The reason that he is getting a constant stream of football letters is no doubt becuse he has never made a B since kindergarten and mmade a 30 on the ACT. Ha has also be distinguished every year that he has taken the state test. Dont get me wrong...Im proud of his accomplishments on the field but I am much prouder of his accomplishments in the classroom. Yes, those things make a big difference to college recruiters!

Sounds like your son has it together and that is great. You should be proud of him both on the field and in the classroom. A 30 is something to really be proud of and it is a great score. However, while a distinguished may sound good, it really means nothing in the big picture as far as college and the entire system is really a joke IMHO. You have taken a interest in your child and it shows and that is awsome. More parents need to follow your lead and be parents. Rap about the ACT score all you want to because that is were it is at big guy. Good luck to your son both on and off the field!

Getting different points of view is what makes this such a great spot for sports. I am not up on OZZY so if I took your thoughts out of context, my mistake. Your passion for the programs is what needs to happen for this and other programs. Keep posting!

It should be Tuesday or Wednesday when we will know for sure, details need to be worked out. This may not be big news to anyone but I thought that it was a good thing that could help your program. Lets just wait and see, BTW did anyone hit the powerball, if I did then we all could have stadium with all the bells and whistles.:dancingpa

Coach Larkey will make the best decision. It sounded like a dandy idea when I first heard it and then after a little more thought..well ya know....

 

I am not nescessarily dead set against it, but if it were me, and it isn't, I would pass on it. I wonder if some of the folks excited about this would be as excited about something similar with Bell County.I would think that financially this would be a bigger venture. I would think that all of Bell County and all of Harlan County would come. Lorettta Lynn can sing at half time in our new stadium. "Coal Miner's Daughter" would sound awesome bouncing off those mountains!

If this is about the bowl game, it isn't going to happen with the city IMHO. I know a county/county bowl is being looked at with Bell. If this was the big news how is it big for the county. Seems like it would be big news for the city?

Harlan County has some dandy 7th and 8th grade kids coming up. Maybe the best in a loooooooooong time. Football, basketball and baseball, man these kids can play. Harlan County will only get stronger.

I agree 100%. The Lewis kid comes by it honest. Both Parents were great players. The Miracle and a long list of others are special too.

I am predicting that the Harlan County Black Bear Freshmen team will go undefeated! The Middle School Coaches in our county have developed some good talent for years. Those younger boys better be working hard, preparing for the next level.

Isn't Miracle an 8th grader this fall? For him to have been close to HS contribution as a 7th grader is high praise indeed.

I appreciate your kind comments and Im not far from disagreeing with you about the state tests. I do, however, place some stock in their Writing portfolios. I also want to be clear that I wasnt knocking my son's abilities on the field. Hr works like a demon in the off season and always gives everything he has. Im just realistic....he isnt going to be an all american and I couldnt be prouder of him if he became a first round draft choice.
