I agree but what else can you do, Cawood was the largest school in the merger. What do you tell your kids when you opt out of the district like this?

 

I am sure he will make up something. It is a shame though that your team can't compete for a playoff game. I believe I would just go ahead and play the game for pride sake.

He reminds me of those hard-nosed Cawood backs of the 1970s and 1980s. He doesn't have blazing speed, but he gets the job done and plays with a lot of heart.

 

Green also reminds me of those hard-nosed Cawood, Cumberland and Evarts backs of days gone by. I think we can all agree that Gilliam, Simmons, Fields, Smith and several others on this team can run but what you must remember there is also something called game speed. Green isn't the fastest when timing 40's but he has game speed and runs faster on friday nights. Heart has something to do with it but some kids are simply faster when in the heat of the battle and TJ is one of them. He has game speed people and I know he moved faster than a 4-8 against Breathitt and Middlesboro. Also, the Ball kid is another who has game speed which was shown a year or two ago against leslie's speed back when he ran him down in the open field not once but two times.

Eastern has taken a big interest in Ball but they question his work ethic, as with most players from our area the colleges that I have been in contact with have a problem with the desire to be a college player and mental toughness. Most kids and all parents really have know idea what it really takes to play sports at the college level. This is one of the biggest reasons that of the few that have the chance to go and try to compete don't seem to stay very long. Now before I hear the exceptions which there are a few this is not my opinion but what coaches at the next level feel is our hurdle to overcome.

Lungbuster I talk with more high school and college coaches in a week than you have in a lifetime, so please when you think that you can dispute my words, know this I NEVER post on a player situation that I haven't spoken to his coach or one that is looking at him.:fight:

You may need to crawl back in the bed and get out on the other side. All I said was I would like to know from who you got your info. You answered that with a coach, I never said I was trying to dispute the word of Bayshore Drive.

However, showing interest in a player and being interested in a player is two different things but since you talk to a lot of college coaches I guess you know this already. Ball has the tools to play at Eastern but again it isn't all about tools. I would love to see him play at Eastern because it would only help the kids who come after him. Don't get a complex big guy I never meant anything negative, just asking a question.

I've seen a lot of good athletes that were turned down at EKU, granted they have started a new regime there but the same old tantrics will be observed I'm sure and that is recruit Florida and Georgia heavily and hope some Kentucky D-1 kid doesn't want to travel far from home or doesn't qualify. Other than that they MAY take them as a walk-on.

The Ball kid is 6'0 (275 or 280) and he will only be a Jr. I was told that he ran a 4.9 forty. That sounds like a college nose or D-tackle to me. Maybe the Bears will have a goal-line play with Ball @ FB.

As a former player of Coach Larkey I think that everyone needs to understand that He does not care what they did in the past, nor does he care about what the kids last name is, who is family is, or how "popular" an athlete is. What he wants is someone on his team that will be dedicated 365. Selflessness, unselfish and desire is what he wants. He will not get fancy, he wants to excel in 3 things, running, blocking and tackling. He wants tough kids, if you're a cry baby stay home with the babies. He is fair and stern, and that is what I love about him. Good luck HCC!

Sorry there Buster I must be getting a chip on my shoulder, I might want to heed my own words about thin skin.lol You are very correct on tools not being the only thing that matters, the coach I spoke to was very up front on his having the ability but will he see the big picture and understand what type of work goes into being a college athlete.
