You are right about Amy Hughes being a good coach and having some good ideas. Maybe you can get her to be the head coach at Ashland in a few years after Bradley retires and you should apply as her assistant.:thumb:

The program's numbers are down for several reasons. The Freshwomen and Middle School Girls have been over looked, under developed for some time now. If Cassity becomes the next "Skipper" of the Lady Devils he will be cleaning up a mess that has been there for the last couple of years. That mess is not a reflection of the young ladies or lack of them. With all due respect when are schools going to start electing to place people into these coaching positions that have atleast played the game before and has the compacity to teach under developed kids how to play the game. This post is not a derogatory attack on Russell but all schools that fall into this political trap.

Coach Parsley IS an employee of the school system and IS eligible. But, I have no idea if he applied. He has been a sub @ Russell for the last two years taking my place as the paid varsity Ast. Coach.

A sub is different from a TEACHER or someone in ADMINISTRATION.

Many coaching positions that are awarded to non-certified staff are VOLUNTEER and are not paid for the coaching duties by the school.

 

However, there are para-professional positions that are paid granted the person meets the coaching level criteria mandated by the KHSAA and the local board policy. For example, I think a level II coach is one who has at least 64 college credits, a level I coach is a certified teacher. blah blah.

 

You actually can hire whoever you want, BUT, in about 99% of most school districts, there is a policy made by the board to ackowledge certified employees over non-certified people for these jobs.

Thank you Mr. Nets. This was my only point and it may be moot because Coach Parsley may not have applied. If a board policy to that effect was in place it is easily changed to accommodate the need. For instance, the change to allow a principal to coach. I was on a local school board for five years and Russell can and will hire whomever they choose, based solely on the person they want to hire.
