Marvin Stone Passes Away

Featured Replies

Former University of Kentucky and University of Louisville men's basketball player Marvin Stone collapsed at halftime of his team's basketball tournament game in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday and died of an apparent heart attack.

Stone, 26, was playing for Al Ittihad Jeddah in the Saudi Arabia Elite Cup semifinals against Ohod.

According to the Arab News, an English language daily newspaper in Saudi Arabia, Stone walked off the court, sat down on the locker room bench and fell over, never to regain consciousness.

"It really saddens all of us at U of L to see a young man like Marvin lose his life at such a young age," said U of L Coach Rick Pitino. "Our deepest sympathies go out to the Stone family."

Stone played one season at U of L after transferring from Kentucky. As a senior in 2002-03, Stone started 23 games for the Cardinals and averaged 10.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots while hitting 51.8 percent of his shots from the field when the Cardinals posted a 25-7 record and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Wow, that is tragic and sad.

RIP, Marvin. Prayers for the Stone family.

As I understand it, this was Stone's first game with that team. Very sad news.

That is what WKYT reported as well. Former Wildcat Jules Camara was a member of the team that Stone was playing against.

What a sad story, Marvin always seemed like a good person.

RIP for Marvin Stone

RIP Marvin. Thoughts and prayers go out to the Stone Family.

Very sad to hear this,. May God bless and comfort his family and friends.

I just saw this a second ago while looking up something on Bill Keightley. Pretty sad thing to hear about.

Incredibly sad. Prayers go out to his family.
