GO HEELS!!!

I used to root for UL every game except the UK game, it wasn't until I joined BGP that I started to have a hard time with it...

 

I was the same way. Deuce is gone now, and it really makes UL more tolerable. I have a hard time rooting for anybody from the Tobacco Road area.

:thumb:Me too. I once had no problem rooting for UL, but since getting to know their BGP fans, I actually rooted for UT over them and sadly, I will pull for UNC over Louisville.

I had the exact opposite experience. Before joining BGP, I was a hard-core UK fan/UL hater. But after getting to know quite a few great Louisville fans here on BGP, I root for them too.

Cards march on.

I root for UK but I think we should all be for the Kentucky team otherwise.

A LOT of my friends/family are surprised that many Kentuckians wear shoes and have all our teeth.

 

I think that any time U of L does well, it reflects well on all of Kentucky.

Since Louisville is facing NC I have had to do some soul searching. TN was easy. I could be for them because they were in the SEC. I knew it was illegal in most places but I could justify it. But Carolina has forced me to face my demons or I should say DEMON. I had, years ago, buried the emotional hatchet with UL and began rooting for them in football and basketball UNTIL Pitino began coaching there. My wife says I feel towards him like a teenage boy jilted by a girl and to get over it.

 

So help me. Louisville is in Ky and is not NC. I should be for them. I want to REALLY be for them. But remember, it is not the school it is the coach. The same coach who said one year "beating Ky is like any other game" and the next year said beating Ky was "the greatest game of his life." I wondered if it was better than the 96 title or the final fours etc,. Do I miss the great years we did not have without him? It may be like Coach Petrino and Arkansas v UL in a football game one day.

 

 

 

 

Someone give me a real solution. Show me how to be for UL when they play everyone but Ky. Show me how to root for them against NC. I believe I have made the first step because I want to. So be gentle.

Atticus, as you know I hold degrees from two of the schools remaining in the Elite 8. I will be happy to help you in what must be a most difficult time for you, as I often do in many other situations in which you find yourself. With Kentucky on the sidelines, maybe a loan of one of my old Davidson t-shirts (you could use it as one of those gowns you look so good in) or my U of L baseball cap would help ease the pain.:jump:

I am going to have to agree with Bluto 100%. ANYTHING that can reflect well on the Commonwealth is a plus.:thumb:

 

And, as far as Bluto's first statement, trust us down here in Eastern Kentucky. We know all about the pre-formed judgements and expectations from outside the state (and INSIDE also!). The missing teeth and unworn shoes are the best of the bad. Most expect a whole lot WORSE!:mad:

Ha Ha. I knew you would let me know but I knew it anyway because you divulge your basketball connections quickly. Last year, it was all over the county how you were once run out of the gym by the George Mason coach while he and you were at Davidson. So I knew if that tidbit excited you that having TWO schools would probably put you over the top.

 

As for what's in bold, the second one makes me sound a bit strange to the uninformed reader; and if I do look good in it, you as well for having that opinion.

UL basketball fans aren't near as hard to put with as their football fans. If Rick had left UK for UL I might have a problem with pulling for them, but since he left the kingdom for his dream job I can live with it. I always pull for UL basketball when they're not playing UK. Go Cards.

Another way to make it easier to root for the Cardinals is to realize how much fun they are to watch.

 

First and foremost we've got David Padgett, the Captain America of the team who had enough injuries for most people to think his basketball career was over and he's still playing like a champ, and an obvious team leader.

 

Then you've got Terrence Williams... an easy enough character for opponents to dislike but when he's on your side he's such a blast to watch. He's an excellent baller and most importantly you know he has FUN when he plays.

 

Then there's Earl Clark. E5, Mr. Step-it-up, whatever you want to call him, when he plays he plays HARD. He's kind of a polar opposite to T-Will where he always has the same facial expression and rarely smiles, but still fun to watch.

 

Juan Palacios, another injury-ridden player that we all wish played like he did in his prime, but he still can make plays.

 

Jerry Smith... he looks like a cartoon character more than a basketball player, but he often comes out of nowhere to make huge plays.

 

Derrick Caracter is huge. I'm glad he's on our side.

 

Andre "Three" McGee, another important player that makes things happen on the court.

 

Will Scott. I love seeing him in there because that usually means the Cardinals have a comfortable lead... oh yeah, and he can make some ridiculous 3-pointers.

 

All the other players have something about them too, but I'm running short on flattery and time.

And this is a great post, especially about Padgett. It also acknowledges reasons to root for the Cards. It would be like convincing RockPride to root for UK if he was trying to do so which would be tough to do.

I am hoping they both loose. I definately hate UNC and hope they never win a game boys or girls. Since Louisville is the worst of two evils and both teams can't loose then I hope U of L comes out on top since they are at least in Ky.

Like I've told everyone that asks" If it doesn't say UK on it and colored Blue and White then I dont care."

I think your wife is right you should just get over the Pitno thing. It is funny that there have been many people that say they don't root for the Cards anymore since they have came on BGP. Well I am starting to get that way about the Wildcats since coming on BGP. I will be rooting for the Cards. Pitno did nothing but great things at Kentucky and I think he is a great coach and I remember the great things. I don't hold a resentment for him because he went to his dream job and it was a failure.
