Holmes 57 LexCath 50

What a turnaround.

Holmes played as poorly as they could in the first quarter.

Then in the second they were able to steady themselves and get back into it.

Then they slowly chipped away, played fantastic halfcourt defense and absolutely cleaned the glass.

Keys to the game.

LC getting into foul trouble.

Holmes handling their pressure.

Rebounding and getting big baskets from Henderson, Pittman, and R. Johnson.

LC missed a bunch of close in shots but Holmes was applying pressure.

Holmes has been impressive throughout. Henderson has been phenominal on defense and timely on offense.

However, the kid who is shooting through the ranks and will soon become a commodity is sophomore Elijah Pittman. 6-5, and long, and who is still growing, caught the eye of Billy Gillispie today.

Hopefully, the Dogs got enough in the tank.

Unbelievable!!! Congrats Holmes and best of luck tonight against Mason Cty!!

Sticking with my original feeling......if the Dawgs got by LexCath, the State Championship will come North ! Awesome job today, this squad has all the special qualities of a champion......poise, leadership, good decision-making, depth, and quality kids; not to mention great coaching. Go Bulldogs..........the 9th Region is behind you!

I really thought LC was going to take the whole thing this year, props to Holmes for taking them down. Good luck tonight against Mason, bring it home.

Congrats Holmes, an amazing comeback considering the caliber of team you were playing. Thought the officiating might have been the best I've seen so far at the Tournament.

Wow lex-cath was up 19-4 this game was theirs, hate to say it but talk about a choke. Great season guys too bad we won't meet again this year.

Some observations from Section 232. Holmes looked like they had never seen a press before, and for the most part, they have not. When it was 23-6, I was thinking waste of time and money. Then my player of the game #11 Avery, hit two free throws and then a three, 23-11. It completely changed the mo to the dawgs. They chipped away and chipped away the way a great team does. There's something going on here with this team that is hard to explain and harder to beat. If you were to tell me that they were going to turn the ball over 22 times, miss 15 free throws and Arez and Ricardo would be 4 for 12 from the field combined and Arez would be 4 for 11 from the line and Ricardo would have 5 TO's and I say BLOWOUT city Catholic. Pittman the most improved player in the state is carrying this team and the tropy back to the 9th region. Heck, there isn't even one in the 9th region any more. One last thing, when the horn sounds tonight and the Bulldogs are holding that trophy high over their heads and everyone associated with this year's team has a chance to touch it, hug it and kiss it, the first person I hand it to if I'm coach John Whimzie is my good friend Mr. Dickey Beal as that ritual was stolen from him 30 years ago as the only three people in the gym that did not see the goal tending just happened to be wearing stripes. Dickey Beal should have been the original hero of the first ever 9th region champion.

I wonder where all the LC fans are who laughed when I said Holmes would be the deepest and most athletic team LC saw? (Mortgagegeek, Knightsdad, SuperB)

How many did Sanford end up with?

I don't think he got in to double figures.

Free throw differiential 38 to 12, WOW! Sounds like the officials were going to make sure LC didn't win it. Holmes can play, should be a great final.

If you play defense with your hands instead of your feet, you're gonna' get this type of differential. When you reach out as they go by you, it's generally going to get called.

WAY TO PLAY BULLDOGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:dancingpa

Well said!!!!!!

Great job by Holmes to not get down on themselves when they got down in the first quarter. Have to give it to them for coming back and winning this one. Not many teams have been able to withstand the quick starts that LC has had this year. They didnt panic and came back and won the game.

What was the score at the end of the first? Seems like LC scored almost as many in the first as they did the rest of the game.
