Holmes 57 LexCath 50

Featured Replies

I felt good about Holmes winning this. They have better personnel. Also, Henderson is a lock down defender and the best at the Sweet 16 this year. He did a good job last year, shutting down Ty Proffit and guarded Mackey really well for a half before he got loose in the 2nd half. This year he has done a great job on Slone and Sanford.

Also, Holmes has 3 great looking sophomores. They will be nice college prospects as well.

I believe Holmes will take this one tonight and win the state title.

Cogratulations Holmes!!!

Who gets the next dose of Arrez Henderson??????

I believe that will be Middleton of MC but Arrez could be on Miller some as well.

Those of you who weren't at the game, highlights can be seen here:

Henley made a good point at the very tail end of that clip for anyone thinking this....

"You don't think about being tired when you're playing the state championship." The Dawgs will be their usual runnin' leapin' defense a'playin' selves...

I wonder where all the LC fans are who laughed when I said Holmes would be the deepest and most athletic team LC saw? (Mortgagegeek, Knightsdad, SuperB)

Congrats Holmes...however I am not an LC fan. Just voicing an opinion that was way off.

I don't think he got in to double figures.

Just looked at the box score... Ended with 8....

I will tell ya this... I don't know if anyone will say they exactly "ran out of gas," but I do know that for about 3 quarters and 6 and a half minutes LexCath was equal to or better than Holmes, and then in that last minute and a half, it just looked like Holmes had that extra spark. Pittman jumped a little bit higher on that tip. Henderson was a little bit quicker to the spot on D. Riley was a step faster dribbling down the court before the dish to Pittman. Does it have to do with depth? I don't know, but it seemed like the same thing happened to Paintsville, except it happened about a minute and a half sooner to them...

I just listened to the press conference for LexCath after the game and a reporter asked if LexCath taught layups without using the backboard. Why would he say this? O'Hearn responded with something like "You go out there and try and make a lay up with 20 thousand people watching." I agree with that, and also the fact they usually had 3 to 4 6'4'' guys with extremely long arms that want nothing more than to put that shot back in your face so hard that you nearly swallow it and knowing that each time if the shot goes in it may win or lose the state semifinal. I think that was a very ignorant question to ask, and after their superb hustle and effort O'Hearn and LexCath's seniors didn't deserve that type question from some rum dum reporter... JMO...

I too noticed that comment, and Henley would know considering he's been here as a player.

JUst realized I said O Hearn when I meant Salsman...

I know that Holmes lost in the finals but just reading this thread makes me think that Coach Henley is a top 5 coach in Kentucky. Sounds like both the in-game planning and the discipline in his players are phenomenal.

I agree. If you look at what some of the people were saying at the beginning of the year about Holmes and the way they were doubted, and look at where they are now, Henley has done a very nice job.

I think the senior leadership also went a long way for this year's team as well though. Anytime you can get 5 seniors to buy in to a TEAM system, the underclassmen fall in line as well and take note.

I happened to be in there when this interview was taking place, and what I heard was something like "Your team missed such and such number of lay-ups in the closing minutes, not using the backboard, is this something that you will work on in the off season?"

It doesn't matter how many people are watching a game, I see this as a legitimate question. The fact is, if they made some of those easy lay-ups, LexCath would have been in the finals.

Also behind the scenes just before the press conference, there was a lot, and I do mean a lot, of complaining going on about the officiating, stating that the calls/no calls cost LexCath the game. But again, facts are facts, if they made those lay-ups, a difference outcome.

LexCath gets all the calls in the 11th Regions. So to start complaining now is a BIG JOKE! It is no fun when the rabbit got the gun! Remember you can not take the 11th Region officiating with you to the Sweet 16.
