This game had a real "Hickory High/Jimmy Chitwood" feel to it! Elliott was completely outmanned yet fought with an unbelievable desire. Congratulations Mason and good luck vs. PT.... to the Elliott supporters, it was a pleasure to be seated on your side. I hope everyone else at this game took away some of Elliott County's karma... with all 5 coming back next year they will be TOUGH! :thumb:

Checking on Live Webcast the Foul count showed Elliot 19 Mason 17. Not a big difference but Mason did not have more called on them. I think that there were a couple of calls at the end that could have really helped Elliott, like the foul when Ferguson drove baseline and when Miller continued to go over the back on missed free throws. No doubt with Miller playing on his new home court he is going to get some calls. Lets just hope that when he plays at UK next year the refs allow him to go over players backs all night long as he did against Elliott.

Why does the Mason County coach keep Miller on the perimeter so much? In games like this one, it would seem to me he needs to post up and play inside a lot more. I realize that's not how it will be when he gets to UK, but in high school you play where you're the most effective.

 

Absolutely!! Mason has a boatload of talent that is underutilized. They have no half court offense and are a total transition team. Superintendent Tim Moore needs to take control of this team as their coach before it's too late!!!

What's this about "The Real Mason Co." showing up Friday? It looked to me as if they showed up tonight, but Elliott just outplayed them at times.

You act as if it were some kind of fluke that EC kept up with them. Outside of the zebra's choking on their whistles the last 2 min. of the game. Elliott Co. WINS this ballgame.

I don't care if you jump over the backboard. If you are boxed out and you jump ON someone's back, its a foul. I couldn't see good enough to say anything else about the 3-point plays because I was sitting at half court and not under the basket. They missed a big call when Ferguson was fouled with about a minute to go and they didn't call it.

 

Key word on. Doesn't the defender have to make an attempt as well for the ball. So, if I'm blocked out, the defender doesn't go for the ball, and it falls in my lap... I committed a foul? Miller was getting killed in the post. I know one time Miller blocked someone on the baseline with two hands, not sure if we are thinking of the same play here???

If you're blocked out the ball won't be falling in your lap. He was over the back on several plays and it wasn't called. He did block a shot with two hands and that was a good block. However, the "block" against Ferguson late in the game was a foul. When he knocked the ball out of Knipp's hand late in the game off the free throw miss was also a foul. Either way, it doesn't matter because the refs didn't have what it takes to blow the whistle and its not a foul if the whistle doesn't blow. I'm not going to say anything about 3's going in and out. Both teams played on the same rims, so no advantage there. They continued to let Setty shoot and he took full advantage.

How many did Elliott have sending Mason to the line at the end of the game? I wouldn't count those to compare foul totals.

He may have gotten those calls, maybe, but he sure didn't get any fouls called on Elliot County against him, and he was being hounded all night. I'd say that made him a little ticked.

 

And as for someone saying they thought the "real" Mason County showed up last night....wrong. They didn't. I'm not gonna say that Elliott doesn't deserve credit, because they do. I'm just saying the Mason County is capable of playing SO much better than they did last night. And 5-16 from the free throw line doesn't really help either. Hopefully Mason County shows up tonight, or they could very easily be done.

I can tell you this, I know by experience, that he has unlimited range, and after his last three, he was in a zone, he could have made it from anywhere after that last three of his.

 

I thought he was feeling it too. I noticed one play late in the game where he was wide open on a wing and I mean wide open, but they missed him and went to the other side.

both teams played hard and when it really mattered Mason rose to the top and took the game from Elliott.
