Pittman is definitely making a case to be on the list for next year.

 

Heard a comment in the stands today that made me laugh: "Boys, yall are looking at a future Mr. Basketball."

I for one, am enjoying the moment. And ya know that comment you heard, it could be true. I don't know, nor does anyone else. What I do know is this. Pittman is the most athletic of the bulldogs, and is only of sophomore. Rico Johnson is very very good as well. They both can shoot the ball from deep, but I give a slight edge to Pittman. He has to learn to play better D though, at this point thats the only reason he isn't starting. I don't know if we will get to see it in the state tournament, but some of his dunks have been sick this year. I would love to see all those sophomores grow a couple inches though.

Newport will be very good, led by Sr Housley and I'm not sure their sr center's name. Their 2010 class is loaded also, but McDaniels, in the games I saw, took a lot of plays off. Luther is an excellent leaper and rebounder and I believe their SG last year name was Green is a good ball player as well. Wouldn't be surprised to see them in the regionals.

 

I see your point about McDaniels but IMO he will improve. He's a good kid and coachable too. Housley should be the PG and should be a leader next season. Newport needs a player to step up and be a leader. The center is Darnell -- IMO he is not as agressive as a big man should be. He tends to drift to the outside on offense -- always wants to shoot the three. Sorry, but to me a big man should patrol around the inside. Another area I've noticed of Darnell is that if he is playing against a more agressive player he is done. IMO -- it's like he cannot handle the agressive play that is required of a big man in the inside. Luther is going to be a key player for Newport next season -- look for him to be on the floor constantly. As far as Green, he has some skill as far as a good shooter, ball control needs some improvement. His defensive skills could use some improvement also. IMO -- young team with potential -- coach needs to step up a more agressive attack on defense too. Russell knows basketball so I expect him to be prepare.

Demetrius Avery from Conner is an excellent player who was out most of this year with an injury. Im looking forward to what he can do next year.

With Holmes having 3 of the top 5 and Riley possibly top 10 next year, I guess everyone should concede the 9th region crown to Holmes the next two years as well :lol:

I agree. The way he's performing down there I wouldn't be surprised to see him get Tourney MVP if Holmes wins the whole thing. How tough will Pittman be to guard next year being in the lineup the whole game.

I just didn't realize he can shoot the ball the way he can, especially from 3. A lot of big buckets today when Holmes really needed them.

Pittman has always been a good 3 point shooter. I think that is what will get him a D1 scholarship. 6'5 and can shoot the three well and caused a 5 second violation on the opposing team's pg yesterday against Paintsville.

Most of that list I can agree with. I do believe that you may have J.Johnson a little high at the moment. He could be top five, but not yet. JMO

I would not put McLeish in the top 10 yet, and would not put J. Johnson in top 5 yet, although McLeish did play better at the end of the season. Otherwise, the list looks pretty good to me. I think any of the following could be end up being top 10 players next year: Coleman (Ryle), Popp, Gabbard, Flannery (Boone), Zumdick (St. Henry), Housley, Greene (Newport), Kowolonek (Highlands). Add Nichols (Ryle), and you would have a pretty good top 20 list for next year.

How do you come to that conclusion?

I look for Jamel Riley to crack the top ten by the end of next year. He will be running the point for Holmes, and may end up being their biggest outside threat. He just needs to be a little more aggresive, and he will be fine.
