We have locker rooms down by the field that also houses all the maintenance equipment for the custodians. The main lockers do not have lockers just bins that lock. The soccer teams (boys & girls), track, cross country, softball, baseball and football all use the facilities. The weights are in the middle of the locker room. The teams do what they can but it is not a safe enviroment when you have 110 boys trying to lift weights in a very small area. Being on the facilities committee turf was our #1 need that would benefit the most students with a new fieldhouse for weights & lockers to benefit all sports as well. Believe it or not but Ryle's weight facility/locker rooms are the worse of all current Boone County schools.

You obviously have not been to the other schools weight rooms and locker rooms. Ryle has the best ones and it is not even close. And if they were so bad they would have been the number one priority for fundraising, not the football/soccer field. Because you already had the best field IMO.

 

Also, upgrades to the locker rooms would have benefited the most students. Because I do not think the turf benefits any of the other sports you mentioned like baseball, softball, cross country, and even track, the turf will not have much of an impact on those sports as would new locker rooms or weight room.

Where is it written that each public school with a certain area must have the exact same facilities? Boone just got themselves a brand new, multi-million dollar gymnasium, paid for with taxpayer money. I don't begrudge them that in the slightest. Cooper, obviously, has ALL brand spanking new facilities. Does that make it unfair to Ryle, Boone, or Conner? Not at all. Ryle went out and raised the money on their own to fully pay for this facility at no expense to the taxpayers (including those taxpayers whose kids attend Cooper, Boone, and Conner!). Congrats to them! If any of the other schools would like the same type of facility, then by all means go out there and raise the money. Ryle owes no apologies to anyone.

 

BTW, Dixe H.S. sure seems to have nicer facilities than other public schools in their area. How were those facilities paid for? (I really don't know - just curious).

 

The sports complex at Dixie was payed for by tax payers and private donations , if I remember correctly.

I was telling someone recently that Ryle is on a strong course to become the dominant overall athletic program in NKY. It has everything needed.

We expected that there would be those that would not support the effort. There are a number of improvments that need to be made. Just as it is with any building project developers and builders fail to provide for the future so it is not hard to believe that they have outgrown the fieldhouse. I am sure that 12 years ago they did not think that they would have to support 110 football players along with soccer, track, and baseball kids all trying to work out of the building. There is also an issue with male and female athelets trying to work out of that building. There is a building there but it certainly does not support the number of kids that are using it. So to aswer your question it is not a matter of how good do you need it, it is having a building that can serve everyone. This whole effort should show that dreams can come true and that any school can do the same thing. Ryle was just lucky enough to find a group of parents and coaches that would step up and do what it takes. I can't think of 1 negative thing to say about any of it. As they say nobody likes a winner;)

 

P.S Boone County's donnor way back when did not want to bid the project out as the law directs any school to do so that is why it did not happen it was not a policy change. The Ryle parents only controled the funding efforts.

In order to upgrade the locker rooms they would have had to add on to the building and we received an estimate of $350,000. The turf field will allow the band to practice on the field instead of the parking lot - baseball & softball could also use it for practice instead of the parking lot - You don't think the track can benefit by being able to hold their field events on turf instead of mud. Ryle has outgrown the fieldhouse and no I haven't been to the other locker rooms for their football programs but I know someone who has and this is their opinion.

:thumb: I have not been in the locker rooms at Boone and Conner but extremely crowded, very inadequate and dangerous during workouts come to mind in regards to Ryle's facility. I would hope that jealousies would yield to hard work and every school should have such good fortune. Clifford Borland Family = AMAZING and thanks again!

Completely, utterly incorrect. Baseball and softball will most definitely benefit from this field. Don't think so? Why not ask the boy's and girl's coaches and find how how frustrating it is for them to be unable to to get on a field this time of year or not even have enough gym team available for six baseball/softball teams. The field will also be very beneficial to track and the band and can be used by all of the physical education classes. And let's not forget that it can be used for other community events.

I think it would be nice if someone who knows exactly what Alexander did offer to do would let everyone here know .I thought when all of this was going on he was told it could not be done just for Boone ,he offered to pay half to put the turf in at all 3 schools .He was going to pay for it at Boone .

All I know is that Dixie was locked in for land (built in 1930's). The BOE was torn down and the elementry school behind Dixie was torn down. Dixie had a terrible FT field, and did not even have a baseball field. I love the new complex!

Plenty of false information here. Any involvement in fundraising is OPTIONAL. Each player is not EXPECTED to raise anything. All players in all sports and band participants are encouraged to tell people the story and ask for help. The ones that want to get involved will do so. About the tax donation, it was said in a very neat context by Mr. Babik, who ran the meeting. He said something like we all look for ways to come up with money for meeting special requests. And, how unusual it is to get unexpected money from the government. People might want to donate a tax rebate for one of their children.
