Wrestling and girls softball - domination.

 

As good as anybody else in soccer (boys won region last 2 years actually), football (except Highlands), baseball (won region last year), golf, volleyball, swimming, girls' basketball dramatically improved and will be as good as anybody starting next year (almost got there this year). Heck, I heard they have a pretty good ping pong program last year. And, nobody ever beats us at checkers. I'm proud of Ryle's accomplishments in sports. Good kids that work hard just like the good kids that work hard everywhere.

 

Sorry about any assumption on my part. Just responding to your sarcasm about "keep us posted" and "noted" and knowing that you are a big Highlands fan.

Poor old Cooper High. Are they going to have to do without an artificial surface? I'm sure the opeing of this new school will lessen the overuse of the Ryle facilities as students change allegiances.

That's cool. I just dislike it when someone throws out the D word. It rarely happens in NKY high school sports for any length of time for a school. If a team is doing well, it should be celebrated. I just don't see any one school dominating NKY in "overall" athletics.

Cooper will only take 200 students from Ryle. I'm certain this will not appreciably lessen the amount of overusage of Ryle's field. The area from which Ryle draws continues to grow by leaps and bounds and they will quickly replace these numbers.

Good point, crunch. I agree about the D word. Dominate means on top of the pile all the time. I would simply say that when you look at the total athletic program performance, Ryle is probably at the top.

No, it will not lessen the overuse of the Ryle facilities. Anybody who has been to Union lately knows that they have continued to build and Ryle is not going to lose that many students. In fact, all the sport programs have increased their participation.

Your right. They don't have open enrollment, and they are not allowed to take tuition students, so you are right by your:D, they obviously are missing some things.

This has been answered and answered and answered. There is no rule saying that the facilities at all 4 schools must be absolutely identical. BCHS didn't get their field because Alexander's donation didn't cover the entire cost and BOE couldn't pay the unpaid portion without doing so for the other schools. Ryle has gone out on their own and privately raised the money to pay for this field - no expense to the taxpayers whatsoever. All the other schools in Boone County are welcome to do the same, as long as they don't ask BOE to help fund their project.

Funny you say that. I wanted to say the same thing, but since I am not an unbiased, casual observer, I felt it might look a little whiny.

 

When I read some of the negative-toned comments about this field for Ryle, I wish someone - just one person - would post the truth about their objection to this field: they begrudge Ryle this field because they're jealous. :irked:

I have no idea what you mean. You would have to give me some examples to help me understand. I am not very smart.

So the richest public high school in Boone County (please don't tell me it isn't) the school who can get the private donations from their families, can indeed build a turf field, but the less affluent schools can only hope that one day, the BOE can afford to do it for them, and this is a public County School system, where everybody is suppose to be equal? Strange!

 

Again I am indeed happy for Ryle!

This is part of what is wrong with athletics. In my county, according to the 2000 census, we had what I believe was 1 person in the whole county who was designated a millionaire.

 

Things like this stinks when some districts can get huge advantages while others cannot. And it has nothing to do with the kids or the coaching staff.
