March 15, 200818 yr Sorry if this has already been posted, I didn't read the entire thread, but the only question I had about the whole thing is........If it was safe for everyone to stay there and they didn't want anyone to leave, why didn't they just go ahead and play?
March 15, 200818 yr The one thing is if they had a contract with a big network for the whole tournament I bet they would have played tonight. Agreed... They have a contract with CBS for the championship game on Sunday. Sometimes the safety of others takes first priority now matter how much money is involved.

It was a strong storm, but nothing close to a major storm. I very seriously doubt moving the SEC title game is an option. The storms have passed and there is no threat tomorrow or Sunday...

March 15, 200818 yr Looking at the damage to CNN Center, the Omni Hotel, and adjacent areas to GaDome, after the UK game, you would have had thousands of people migrating through this area, which would have stopped any damage assessment/cleanup/inspections to the area. I know people on here who are not in Atlanta are upset at not getting the game played, but you don't want thousands of people coming through an area that has already been evacuated once and cordoned off by the police and rescue personnel. You evacuate once, and then you can begin the cleanup at full speed.

I still think the championship will be played on Sunday, but I believe canceling tonight's game was the right call, and would have been the decision no matter who was doing the game.
March 15, 200818 yr I think they should've played I agree I did not see any reason for them not to play tonight. It was only going to be about a hour later than last nights game ended unless it was an OT game.
March 15, 200818 yr There is no hole in the dome... There is obviously some bad damage though. The outside was ripped off and the inside was damaged bad enough for debris to fall from the roof. Large windows were ripped out...the damage could be worse than we know.
