March 12, 200818 yr That would be me! I love it! What would you like to hear? Now, let's see how the attendance is in Bowling Green. Butler and Manual are the Louisville reps. Will Henry Clay bring many?
March 12, 200818 yr To me, the bigger issue is the lack of small schools in the tournament -- Breathitt County and Elizabethtown look to be the smallest schools in the tournament and they are 3A in football (Old 2A). It's time to class all sports in Kentucky. NO......in basketball you can only have twelve or so kids, so that's not it. Indiana classed basketball and the majority of the folks up there find that it's been a horrible decision....basketball is awesome with the sweet 16 leave it alone. Let's quit making champs out of everyone, life isn't like that.
March 12, 200818 yr Based on the reasons for the previous success garnered by the private schools, this year the publics must have outworked, outsupported and outcoached the private schools. It would certainly appear that way :thumb:

March 12, 200818 yr And some other good ones http://www.brianbaute.com/archives/2006/03/hoosier-hysteria.php http://www.news-tribune.net/floydsports/local_story_057233603.html http://www.kpcnews.com/articles/2007/02/25/features/columnists/dave_kurtz/doc45e1bd44df52b361605675.txt I think attendance is tied into the arguement too much. Attendance is down everywhere in high school basketball. Except in Kentucky. So there has to be a reason...
March 12, 200818 yr From what I've heard and read on here, attendance is down in Kentucky also. That could be due more to Title IX scheduling requirements than class basketball, but I've read where Sweet 16 attendance has been down also.
March 12, 200818 yr I think attendance is down for basketball games because there is so much more for kids to do now. When I was in high school (2001 graduate) we had great crowds at Bell Co. We put a great team on the floor every year, but in that area back then the fans choices for a friday night game were basically stay home, go to the game, bowling, or watch a movie. Now kids are playing video games online, have high speed internet, can watch games online, etc. It's just a sign of the times. Man do I feel old...
March 12, 200818 yr Congratulations to all the teams who made it! You worked hard and earned your way in! I'll be rooting for the Louisville girls!

You also have the Title IX regulations that have some schools playing four nights a week and at $5 a head at most places, it gets to where people can't afford to go to games four nights a week. I don't know of too many places where single girls games outdraw crowds at doubleheaders. As a result of Title IX, there are fewer doubleheaders being played.
March 13, 200818 yr Based on the reasons for the previous success garnered by the private schools, this year the publics must have outworked, outsupported and outcoached the private schools. I suspect you're trying to be sarcastic but there probably is a lot of merit in your contention. The door can swing both ways, and you have to be man, or woman, enough to admit it.
March 13, 200818 yr Based on the reasons for the previous success garnered by the private schools, this year the publics must have outworked, outsupported and outcoached the private schools. They probably did. Any program not still playing needs to be more committed this offseason; administrators need to critically assess whether they have the right person coaching their program; and fans and supporters need to ask themselves if they did all that they could have done. There's a reason why some are still playing and some are not. Talent plays a role but even then, in my opinion, most high school level talent is developed through hard work over many years.
March 13, 200818 yr :rolleyes:With no private school making the tournament this year, I think it is time for the private schools to boycott playing the public schools. The public schools have to much of an advantage over them. I mean, the kids at public schools don't have to pay to go to school there!
March 13, 200818 yr The all public school Sweet 16 is all the more the reason public and private schools do not need separate classifications in any sport. Basketball is King at many schools in KY and most public schools put a lot of effort into their basketball programs and it shows. Kudos to all the representatives this year. Furthermore, all you public school football guys need to figure out why your basketball gals and guys can get it done in the public setting but you can't do it in football?
