100% Public Girls State Basketball Tournament

Featured Replies

I don't understand why it's OK to class some sports and not others. While basketball isn't like soccer, volleyball, and softball when it comes to lack of small school representation, I've never bought the "historical" arguement when it comes to classifying basketball in Kentucky. People in Indiana thought it would kill the sport there, but in actuality, it has built stronger rivalries at the sectional and regional level and attendance is where it was 10 years ago.

After each made shot into a peach basket, they would line up for a jump ball at midcourt. That was changed and the game hasn't suffered as a result.

I'm not one to advocate handing out more trophies and making more people feel warm and fuzzy. But I can't understand why some sports are classified and some aren't. Either class them all or don't class any.

A lot of 2A football schools are in the All A.

Let's hope classifying basketball is never considered.

Well that is what I thought but I am not real up to date in the basketball category so I didn't want to say that there are 2a schools playing but I thought so.

Who is the favorite to win the tourney?

You have to give Henry Clay consideration as they beat #1 in the state Dunbar on one night and then #2 in the state Lex Catholic the next night.

How tall is the girl that plays for HC? I saw them play in the regional finals and she was impressive.

Sixteen (16) public high schools competing for the state title - how many years has it been since the privates didn't make state?

Let's hear it for the cry babies who are always screaming "private schools should have their own state tournament."

I believe it was 1998

The basketball will never change IMO, if you will notice on the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen has a trademark from a long time ago. They will not give that trademark up I'm sure, to much money.

First time since 1998

First time since 1998 for what?

First time since 1998 for what?

No private school in the tournament.

Also, I believe it was 8 or 9 years running that a private had won the state title.

Lex Christ last year.

Lex Cath the two or three years previous.

Sacred Heart the previous three years.

Lex Cath either the year before that or a public won it and then Lex Cath.

I think attendance is tied into the arguement too much. Attendance is down everywhere in high school basketball.

West Carter won in 2000.
