I would think that McGraw would be ok w/ the ego thing. Wasn't he is Simpson's shadow for two years?

 

His call - he's got the chops to play, and I'd like to see him in blue. There are only a couple of things I can think of in this world that beat playing basketball for UK, and they have nothing to do with sports. I would hope that northern Kentucky would collectively rally behind him trying to make it at UK. Mark Krebs' story and journey to play for the Cats is truly inspirational. Adding another chapter by Greg McGraw would be great. But I think he could play at a lot of other places if he was ready to try the walk on route, and I think the path would be easier and the reward (i.e. playing time) greater somewhere else.

 

I hope he has a successful career at the next level - I think he's earned it by perservering through the injuries.

If Mark Krebs can do it so can Mcgraw!

It is beyond me why NKU doesn't offer him a scholarship..I really don't think his back is that much of an issue. I think Willie was just being really cautious with him throughout the year..I hope somebody ponies up for the young man....:thumb::thumb::thumb:

 

I think that Coach Bezold would love to.

 

However, it is a risky proposition. Once offered a scholly that scholorship remains in effect for the duration of that player's academic career, so long as he remains academically eligible.

 

It's my understanding that NKU is strapped for scholarships right now. I suspect that Coach Bezold will have a sit down with McGraw and try to come to some agreement outside of the terms of a scholarship. Sheer speculation based on some informed info that I have heard.

Greg has the strength to play D-1 and the ability IMO. He plays hard and is a team player. I know a ton of kids go to UK every year after they graduate from Highlands so maybe he is just wanting to go there for academics and thinks giving it a shot as a walk-on is worth it. There are not many guards that have come out of the 9th Region with his quickness, leaping ability, strength, 3pt shooting capability and passing skills. He is the total package but could be an inch or two too small for D-1. However you look at kids like Lofton/Bradley and they arent 6'4 either so I say have at it Greg.

 

On the NKU side of things, if they are going to give schollys to the McFarlands/Ryans etc then McGraw most definitely deserves one.

Ryan is on baseball scholarship and NKU is loaded at shooting guard. They need big men. With that said though, I still would like to see him play at NKU.

Wasn't there a good LB from Highlands (I think) who played for UK in the 60's, Mike McGraw? Is this kid any relation? Or, am I completely mixed up?

He's about 6'2 190. Free Safety or OLB type body. Here's a pic of him.

If he wouldn't of hurt his back IMO he would of been a D1 safety for the Birds...He was extremely talented and would take your head off if you came across the middle of the field...

By the way...The Cov. Cath. player in the Greg McGraw photo, J.D. Schmerge, has a bit of D1 football pedigree in him as well. His dad played tight end at Michigan.

You never lie RB. Sad thing about it is, as good as Mcgraw is at basketball, he might be even better at football. All around great athlete.
