Greg Mcgraw of Highlands to UK??

Featured Replies

Now this is just a rumor floating around Ft. Thomas so nobody bash me for posting this, but I've heard from a few people he MIGHT try to walk on at UK next year.

Any thoughts?

Gillispie loves to stock a team with walk-on's. If this kid fits a need, I'm sure they'd be happy to have him. Good luck!

Arent there about 4 walk-ons now? How many walk-ons would UK take? We hear about Stepp and Slone possibily walking on as well.

With that, have at it, young man.

The question is, are those current walk-ons guaranteed to be on the team next year? Gillispie might reshuffle the deck each season.

If Mcgraw were to walk on, he would probably be a 1 or 2.

He is a great talent but I don't see him trying it, but if he does I wish him the best of luck.

If that's what makes him happy, go for it. It would be a great experience if he could get on the team.

Saw him play one time this year; very good player!

It is beyond me why NKU doesn't offer him a scholarship..I really don't think his back is that much of an issue. I think Willie was just being really cautious with him throughout the year..I hope somebody ponies up for the young man....:thumb::thumb::thumb:

As an all-around player and strictly from a talent perspective, McGraw is several steps ahead of Krebs was coming out of high school. Having said that, I am hearing a lot of chatter about McGraw walking on, or Stepp walking on, etc., but I think it would do some good for all of those people talking about these guys walking on to read the article about Mark Krebs journey to make it as a walk on (I think it was in the Enquirer a few weeks ago - anybody got a link?). Making it as a walk-on at UK requires some modicum of talent, to be sure, but it demands a work ethic and manic "against-the-odds" type motivation that not a lot of kids have, particularly those that have been stars in high school. That is not in any way a comment about the guys I mentioned - McGraw in particular battled like a warrior just to get back on the court after his injury- I just think it is the rare kid who can go from being a star, the focal point of the school and team, to a situation where they're the tackling dummy that may never play. For any kid that can endure that, and has the right mindset, I say bravo and go get 'em - I for one would love to see another northern Kentucky as a Wildcat.

For whatever its worth.

If I am understanding you correctly, he is considering going to UK as a walk-on. This is different than BCG offering him a spot as a "preferred" walk-on, correct?

It is hard to gauge how serious his back problems are. Can anyone shed some light on this?

You are correct. He isn't being offered a scholarship or spot as a preferred walk on, but rather going to UK and MAY try to walk on if he does indeed end up there.

As far as his back problems go, I know they kept him out his whole junior year, so really how bad they are, only Greg knows.

I would think that McGraw would be ok w/ the ego thing. Wasn't he is Simpson's shadow for two years?
