Ben Mauk update - information on an injury he hasn't disclosed before

Featured Replies

This doesn't pass the smell test. Even if the old injury is legit this is much too sneaky for my tastes.

The injury was legit, but I agree it should have been revealed at the time and not now.

I'll quote a friend of mine from a UC board that put it perfectly...

What the heck. Give it a shot. Nothing to lose.

However....the rationale for not playing all the cards in your hand might be that going in, you had no idea what the NCAA was going to lean on to rule against you.....Now that you have them on the record and documented on what specific regulation and what application of standards they believe are controlling, you know what their argument is and their interpretation of the facts now so you can possibly use that remaining card to counter.

Empty all six chambers too soon and you get that info but have nothing to shoot back with. Just my $.02.

I'm not sure I buy that theory. I think the NCAA is going to say "too late."

Is Mauk working out for any pro teams?

The NCAA made it clear in their denial that he was not granted another year because he was a healthy redshirt as a FROSH. If that's not the case....

Mauk will be working out at the UC Pro Day on Wednesday.

agree

Does this quote from before his first appeal tell us that his first RS year was not due to injury?

"That's the disappointing thing. That redshirt year, it wasn't like I went into coach (Jim) Grobe's office and said, 'Hey coach, I want to sit out this year. I don't want to play.' It was a thing where I was a freshman and I wanted to play ? I never wanted to sit out ? and I thought I could help the team out. But I wasn't playing, and it was out of my control."

Does Jones have to sit out a year or just miss a few weeks?

He can play week 1...

He can play week 1...

That's what I had thought. I realize Mauk is a seasoned vet, but I hope they turn it over to Jones. He should be the future. OSU wanted his services, he can be a difference maker on the field.

Everything has been submitted to the NCAA and UC is hoping to have a final answer by the end of the week...

I hope he gets it. He is a competitor and fun to watch. Good luck to Ben.

A few coaches I heard from today seem pretty confident that he'll get it...

I too hope to see him on the field again.

I was lucky enough to catch him back in high school and the kid was/is a stud on the field.

His dad seems confident also.
