$$East-Bank$$ Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 The Williamburg upset over McCreary central got me thinking and I was curious. What is the worst record held by a team that won their paticular region and advanced to the Sweet 16?? The Mercer County team that went to state about 6-8 years ago was like 14-16 I believe, it was when Joe White was a freshman I believe maybe 1999-00. Should be interesting.
Trojans Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I remember the Mercer Co. team, I think they had the worst record at a few games under .500. Also I believe there have been about 5 teams at .500 or worse make it. I know they are listed in the Sweet 16 program. I think Barren Co. had a pretty bad record a few years before the Warren Central run started in the 4th.
bigblueinsanity Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I remember Mercer Co went a few years ago and I remember them.

cch5432 Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I think one of the mountain teams (possibly Hazard) had a bad record in the 2005-2006 Sweet 16. I could be way off base though.
rudedogky Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Cumberland was 16-13 when heading to Rupp in 2003.......defeating a 24-4 Rockcastle team in the finals..........:ylsuper:
gchs_uk9 Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 This is from the state tournament program from 2006. I've listed teams from the modern era: 1984, Scott County (13-16) 2000, Mercer County (15-17) 1987, Rowan County (15-16) 1989, Oldham County (16-16)
SouthernSportsFan Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Williamsburg didn't upset McCreary, eastbank.

I remember that Rowan team as being pretty solid. I would have thought their record was much better....

I believe they were lead by Frank Persley.

If that is the team that beat NCC in 1984, that was a HUGE upset; the NCC team was ranked first in the state for a large portion of the season. I think they only had 1 loss, then they got to Lexington and things went haywire and they got knocked out in the first round. I just didn't recall who it was that knocked them out.

Henry Steele Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 It was Scott Co. Am I right about NCC being ranked no. 1 and only having 1 loss that year going into the Sweet 16?
