Door Knockers.

Featured Replies

Have you ever had a knocker come by your door to talk? Like a Jehova's witness or a Mormon on a mission. If you have, did you invite them in to talk?

I'm kind of curious on how Christians would treat these faiths when they come to attempt conversions. Do you attempt to convert them, while they attempt to convert you? Or do you just tell them you aren't interested and send them on their way?

And I'm sorry if this sounds bad, but I have never had the opportunity to speak with either one of these groups (I know Mormons, but they are more of the "my parents are Mormons, not me" types) and I hear they have stopped by some houses in my area. I definitely want to invite them in to talk, but I'm not for sure if they can have a discussion or if there is a certain program they have to follow. Plus I'd really like a Book of Mormon to read.

I usually say, "I'm not interested", and I leave them at the door. :D JK...but I do tell them I'm not interested and hope they take that as a hint and leave. Or I give them a friends number, and tell them to call me at a better time. Kidding again.

I have had both come to my door at the various places we have lived. I try to be polite, and tell them I don't have time now and am very busy.

If it is the Jehovah's witnesses and I have time, I invite them in and let them fulfill their religious duty and thank them for their literature. There is no harm in being polite to people who want to have a civil discussion on religion, whether I agree with them or not.

My dad gets really excited and goes and grabs some books of his own. He then promises that he will read their literature if they will read his. Then he reads a few lines out of the book, usually contrary to their faith. They normally leave at this point.

Done both, invited them in and told them, not interested.

They used to see me sitting on my front porch during the warm weather and come up and talk to me. I always listened to what they had to say, but they would leave rather quickly after I told them my wife is Catholic. Go figure:confused:

Like Jeff Foxworthy says, you spread some pamplets about on the lawn, draw some chalk outlines on the sidewalk and never have another visitor.

I lost a close friend because of this.

He became a Jehovah's Witness and any time I saw him he felt it was his duty to try to convert me. I told him more then once that I respected his beliefs and his right to practice them but I drew the line at constantly trying to convert me. When he wouldn't stop I stopped socializing with him.

Maybe I'm narrow minded but I won't even listen to them.

I haven't had too many while at home. However, I do get many pamphlets left by the Jehova Witnesses and another group(very fire and brimstone). Also, an Amish person mails me something periodically.

I used to have a lot of laughs at their expense back in the days when I lived in Covington.

I am very nice and polite, but I tell them I am not interested and shut the door...

Yes, during the summer. NIce pleasant day. We sat on the porch and talked for awhile. They eventually bowed out of the conversation as they wanted to talk to some other people. I invited them to come back. No one has ever returned.

I think my address might be blackballed.:D

I got a visit from an older very sweet lady that was a Witness. We sat on the porch for a while and I listened to her. A few weeks later she came back with the head man, we also talked. Their bus pulled up and as they were leaving I went out to the bus and invited all of them in for "my turn". They had to "get back", and now I see the bus/van skip my house.

My neighbors tell me when they get a visit they ask them to visit me and say he will talk to you...they tell my neighbors "we are not allowed to go to that house". They have a church close by and I've told my youngest "lets go over there and talk to them as they leave their church".

I give anyone respect that shows up at my door. I will listen quietly for a few moments at the door and take their pamphlets.

I have a much greater problem with telemarketers...maybe not so respectful. :D
