February 26, 200818 yr I'm just wondering why he (Canady) is trying to blame someone for getting on his e-mail. “If you look at the Feb. 11 e-mail, one of the referees they requested is on the game and two aren’t,” Canady said. “My main concern is finding out how someone tapped into my e-mails. I’m hoping my Tech. Department finds out who has been getting on my e-mails. They didn’t print all of the e-mails that had my responses. On one, I responded back by saying I asked Santa Claus for a convertible Lexus and didn’t get it.” Whoever it was, didn't send the e-mails to the coaches all season long. Another assigning secretary needs to be in place for next year. IMO Huh? So are you saying that Canady did not send emails back? I don't really understand. Also, what has been said here that incriminates Canady in any way? If he is doing a bad job, I could see replacing him, but other than that, I have not found anything he said that has been wrong or incriminating.

Continuing the dialogue over that period of time, places him in a compromising position. My other question would be whether that sort of dialogue was common practice among all schools in the region, or was it just the Clay connection that had the assignor's ear? He allowed a perception of impropriety to exist.
February 26, 200818 yr What if this is nothing more than wanting the best, most competent officials for the most important games? I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. Why is the inference that the requested officials are homers?

There was a game last night that was played that it was obvious what was going on, and it is not right. When you put kids at a great risk to get hurt is when it crosses the line. Something needs to be done.

February 26, 200818 yr Though I haven't spoken with him in a couple of years (since his move to Clay Co) I know Kevin Spurlock personally. He is a great person and a committed basketball coach who develops his players athletically and personally. He cares about kids, his family and his basketball program. The last time I spoke to him, he asked me about several of the kids that he coached at Trimble Co back in 2002, wanting to know how they were doing in college and life. He remembered their names, their family's names/situations, and their college goals/career dreams. The same kids (well, now adults) will ask me from time to time, "How is Coach Spurlock doing?" You don't do that of a guy that you don't respect. I just wanted to share that info, though it has not bearing on the situation.

I often hear "it was obvious what was going on", when it may not have been so obvious to others. Just because a call, game, tournament, etc. doesn't go the way of your team doesn't mean that someone "needs to be held accountable". Heck, I really don't care if the official is right or wrong about a questioned call(though I'd prefer they be right), as long as they are doing the best they can to impartially officiate the game. Any measures to enforce "accountability" to anyone will only result in one thing...........less officials. There simply isn't enough money in HS officiating to deal with those types of headaches. The best thing that can be done is for the local officiating associations to educate and inform their officials as best as possible. Aside from that, sit in the stands, cheer for your team.........and better yet, become an official!!

We at Corbin have to listen to other fans in the area complain about the favoritism shown to the Redhounds by 13th regions officials, so one who think that Corbin would really struggle when they get officials from other regions.
