February 25, 200818 yr Lets keep this one clean of Rule 10 and discuss like adults. If this is true and ends up being proven, what does everyone think the punishment should be for all parties? Link to article below. http://www.sentinel-echo.com/homepage/local_story_054004018.html
February 25, 200818 yr JJ, this could be significant and involve several. I can see the media, approaching some the names mentioned and looking for statements. With the Tournaments getting read to start, the timing is terrible.
February 25, 200818 yr Author I agree S3, this is gonna be big I think. Timing is the worst. I think heads are gonna roll..........
February 25, 200818 yr Would "asking" for certain officials be considered a rules violation or scandal? For some reason I'm having a hard time seeing anything that is worthy of any kind of punishment. I'd say if anything, DeVries & Boucher will advise these guys to use the phone instead of email from now on.

I believe the Assigning Secretaries, are working under the auspice of the Commission and delegate officials assignments. Once an assignment happens, then Coaches can view the names and if on their scratch list, can request others. I don't think a provision exists, for requesting others instead of the ones assigned.
February 25, 200818 yr I wonder if someone done something illegal to get these e-mails. I just can't see either of the parties involved just sending these out to everyone. If all the coaches in the 13th got one who sent it to them? That would be on the e-mail wouldn't it?

But the coaches can only scratch 3 refs per year. So if they use their right and scratch 3 and have a problem with another, what can they do?

You may, or may not be right in saying a "provision" for requesting other officials other than the ones assigned doesn't exists...But I wonder if there is a "rule" that says a coach can't ask for a better or more experienced crew. I'm not trying to justify anything, and no, several wrongs (as some may see it) don't make a right, but if any of you out there think coaches don't ask their assigning secretary to adjust their officiating crews (even though a scratched one is not on it) from time to time, you must have your head in the sand.
February 25, 200818 yr Author If the rule says they can only scratch 3, then there is nothing they can do within the rules. I think this is where this is gonna get sticky. I think that there are not enough scratches though for coaches.
February 25, 200818 yr If anything could ever be proven, could these refs be facing legal issues and/or jail time?
February 25, 200818 yr If anything could ever be proven, could these refs be facing legal issues and/or jail time? No refs have done anything. The people at fault are Clay Co. coaches and the assigning secretary.
February 25, 200818 yr I don't think that most teams in the 13th are gonna trust those refs that were consistently asked for by the Clay Coaches. As a matter of fact I have already heard this from some coaches.
February 25, 200818 yr No refs have done anything. The people at fault are Clay Co. coaches and the assigning secretary. But doesn't it say without saying that there are some, how should I say, "partial" refs in the 13th?
February 25, 200818 yr It's sad to say this, but none of this surprises me. It will be interesting to see what happens. Someone is going to catch some heat, that's for sure!
