February 20, 200818 yr RIVERDALE, Utah - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. apologized to a Muslim woman who said she was mocked because of her face veil. "Please don't stick me up," a cashier told the shopper on Feb. 2, according to The Council on American-Islamic Relations. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080220/ap_on_re_us/wal_mart_apology
February 21, 200818 yr I'm sure "discipline" means she was fired. With no union at Wal-Mart they can definitely pull that off.
February 21, 200818 yr Most Wal-Mart employees go out of their way to be friendly. I doubt the employee meant to "mock" her. She probably thought she was being funny. Obviously she missed her mark. Is it wrong? Of course. Is it newsworthy? No. I think the woman who was offended should have addressed the employee directly. If she didnt feel comfortable doing that, she should have spoken to Wal Mart management. I was once in line behind a woman buying a pregnancy test. The cashier wished her good luck. After that woman was done with him, I guarantee you he never commented on an EPT again!

February 21, 200818 yr American's are just ignorant of other cultures and this proves it. I think an apology would have sufficed. I don't know that she needed to lose her job over it, but Wally world was probably just trying to avoid a PR nightmare.

You have been a manager too Pat, what would you have done?

February 21, 200818 yr You know me. I'm not the most politically correct person ever... Me and you both, but when it comes to our professional lives, we know where to draw the line. Honestly, I dont know if there is room for that kind of stupidity to say something like that in any company.
February 21, 200818 yr I say go back to your own country if you have no sense of humor. Now where in the article does it say that she is from another country?
