Right, I understand what you're saying. But how old was this girl? Is she in high school? College? I think you have to give her a talking to, but not necessarily fire her. A face to face apology is necessary, too.

I dont think it is the same thing. She would have had to know there was a negative connotation between african americans and fried chicken. There was no pre-existing connotation with a veil and being a "bandit." The veil reminded her of a bandit's handkerchief, and she made an unfortunate, but likely innocent joke.

If she truly thought the customer would enjoy her humor, she's too dang stupid to be employed in a position that deals with the public.

What makes you think that the Muslim woman who was offended wasnt American. If you are talking about country of ethnic origin -unless you are 100% Native American- I dont think that you have much to stand on with that comment.
