Any defensive team causes fits for Elliot. If Mason plays D like they did tonight next year, they will have a good shot to win.

 

They must be able to really spread out their defense. It is no secret that Elliott lives by the 3. Good win for the Royals. Two of Elliott County's losses this year was to the Royals(Mason and Rose Hill).

Mason County has great tradition guys. Think of the past players: Chris Lofton, Timmy Myrick, Shawn Myrick, Wes Jones, Harry Lewis, Dustin Grutza, Jarod Litzinger, Deron Feldhous (spelling may be wrong), Butler kid, Kelly Middleton, Chris O'Hearn and not forget Maysville Bulldogs past either. I can't think of the other player from Maysville that played for UK (long time ago). Great tradition especially in the Maysville area. The 10th Region is just tough. It is probably hands down the top 4 hardest regions in the state every year. Just think of the players that has came out of the 10th Region: Alvin Simms, Chris Lofton, Chez Marks, Kevin Reinhart, Timmy Myrick, Shawn Myrick, Deron Feldhaus, Robbie Graham, Josh Graham, Wes Burtner, Billy Ray Fawns, Ken Lee, Larry Tiller, Robinson kid from Bourbon County and there is another guy from Bourbon County that was tough, Clark County has had great players, and many more....... I know someone knows more than me.

 

This will be good for Elliott County even though the score may not look like it, but you won't play a team in the 16th Region that is like Mason County. Elliott County will bounce back. Those kids have great instincts on the floor, very good basketball awareness.

Elliott returns all 5 starters next year and Morgan is a junior. Seniors are Maynard and Centers. Congrads to the Mason County Royals. As a LION fan who was unable to attend the game that is about all there is to say. Sounds like Ferg was the only one who shot a decent % with 46% (6-13 Treys) and 27 points. Team shot 31% and from what I hear Mason shot around 60%. No excuses. The Lions are still having a great year and have a chance to make it to Rupp and still finish with 25 wins or more on the season.

No one mentioned that 3 Mason Co. players were recognized by McDonald's as All-American nominees. Miller, Setty and Desarae Chambers. Congrats! Billy Gillespie may have been there to look at Setty.:sssh:

I agree with a previous poster who stated that there was no way Montgomery County could have held tonight's crowd.

I don't think none of us know what Billy G. wants. There are several nice players besides Miller that were on the court tonight for both sides.

I looked for this game to be kind of close.

It's easy for fans of Mason to laugh off Elliott and not take them serious..People on here love nothing more than to slam Elliott..My statement is, Remove 3 out of every 4 players from Mason's team (as per enrollment numbers) And see how they stack up with teams across the state. Is Elliott a premier team in the state?? No.. Are they a team that for their enrollment size is doing things extraordinary?? Absolutlely!

I took Elliott very seriously coming into this game and still take them seriously after a 30 point win. They are a bunch of kids that have worked very hard to get to this point. A lot of the criticism comes from how they are handling their success on the court, beating teams by 60,70 and even 80 points.

 

Anyway, back to the game. Elliott just isn't good enough in half court sets to beat anyone in that way. They like to run and if they can create turnovers, they will win games going away. They were unable to dictate tempo and were unable to do anything against Mason Co's half court defense.

 

Elliott is a good team and they could end up winning the 16th this year and of coure they will contend for the 16th title next year. Fact is, they aren't a top 20 team in the state. That's not a slam against Elliott, that's just the truth.
