February 14, 200818 yr Good, I never liked him anyway or IU's program for that matter. I hate it for the kids not in question though.
February 15, 200818 yr I honestly hate to see this happen. Sampson is 1 of my favorite coaches in college basketball. I think he does a great job. But you can't get caught breaking rules, especially not more than once. I honestly do not want IU to go on a big probation. I was just getting excited about the idea of UK, IU, and UL all having very good teams again in the near future.
February 15, 200818 yr Bruce Pearl, anyone? Is IU a step up and would this be a possible hire? Well if he wants to go to a place with more tradition then I would say its a step up for him. However he has a very nice thing going down there at UT which he has built. So I don't know if I would leave if I was him. I know its kind of like the Billy Donovan thing. Billy D built that UF program and had a chance to go to a school with more tradition in UK, but wanted to say at the program he built. I know I hope he wouldn't go to IU, because he is already bring in good recruits to UT. I can't imagine how good of a job he would do at IU, and the style he plays is just fun for any player. So I think players would love to go there. So I guess I can see why he would go there, but I also can see why he would stay at UT.
February 15, 200818 yr IU has to be very careful and need to look no further than within their own league, and look at the OSU issue when Jim O'Brien was fired. They fired him before all the NCAA stuff was hashed out and O'Brien filed a lawsuit and ended up winning a whole bunch of money. The whole investigation, findings, rebuttal and sanctions and so forth still has a ways to play out, and may not be completed until August. He can be fired for just cause and receive zero money. They may just have to let this one ride out, or they may just suspend him. The AD is probably gone. Not so much for the hire itself, but mainly for not having some sort of more intensive monitoring of Sampson after he was hired coming off the issues he had at OU.
February 15, 200818 yr There's a simple solution to this concern... Our source says that the school is looking to act quickly with Sampson because if he were to guide the 13th-ranked Hoosiers to the Final Four - it’s entirely possible with talent like DJ White, Eric Gordon, and a cadre of role players - it would be much more difficult (nearly impossible) to fire him. Impose a post-season ban on this season...do that and you likely lighten punishment down the road, and eliminate any chance of Sampson winning fan favor by making a great tournament run.
February 15, 200818 yr Not fair to present players to forgo season tourney this year. Work with NCAA...suspend Sampson from any type of recruiting, contact and so forth indefinitely. May hurt in future, but that is administration fault for hiring the clown.

Because he's so good at following sanctions.
February 15, 200818 yr It's never fair to the players that are left. If fairness were the issue, the guilty parties would be punished in a way that wouldn't affect innocent people when NCAA infractions are dealt with. Fairness to innocent players that are left behind has never been a concern before, so why start now?
February 15, 200818 yr IU press conference at 3:00 today.Just to announce the investigation. And what their plan is.
February 15, 200818 yr Just to announce the investigation. And what their plan is. And could part of that plan be firing Sampson?
February 15, 200818 yr And could part of that plan be firing Sampson? They are more going to talk about what the investigation will entail and what the steps will be once it's completed, which is expected to be early next week.
February 15, 200818 yr They are more going to talk about what the investigation will entail and what the steps will be once it's completed, which is expected to be early next week. So you don't expect Sampson to be fired or suspended?
