Uk4Life Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I am not starting this thread to discuss abortion b/c that has been done many times over. I would like you to take a side regarding the next 4 years and this president. Not about who will win but what will happen in regards to Roe v. Wade and the abortion debate. first, here is some information 6 Justices appointed by a Republican President: Roberts, Scalia, Kennedy, Souter, Thomas, Alito 3 Justices appointed by a Democratic President: Stevens, Ginsburg, Breyer So, here's the question & do not debate the issue but just put your answer. Statement: In the next 4 years, Roe v. Wade will be overturned or an amendment will be added to the Constitution regarding abortion being illegal.
Uk4Life Posted February 10, 2008 Author Posted February 10, 2008 No they will not be overturned or an amendment will not be added in 4 years. *please answer so we can come back to this in 4 years.
Jumper_Dad Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I agree, nothing will change fundamentaly in the way the law is today.

I don't think you can tell how a person is going to rule based on the party of the President that appointed them. Some judges that have sided with a more liberal bent even in this issue were appointed by Republicans.
ladiesbballcoach Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 When I stand before God at the end of times, I fully expect that he is going to judge me based upon whether I loved my neighbor as I love myself. And part of that is whether I did what I could to stop the killing the most innocent of lives. He is not going to judge me based on whether a judge voted to overturn Roe v Wade or not. He is not going to judge me based on whether a President stuck to his campaign promises or not. I believe he will judge me though on the issue of whether I supported politicians that looked to continuing the killing of unborn babies in this country or not. I believe he will judge me though on the issue of whether I supported politicians that looked to not help those of us who are truly needed. I will vote for the candidate who says they will work towards the removal of this stain, a stain comparable to slavery, in this country. Whether that happens in 4 years or 40 years, I will continue to vote for the candidate who works towards preserving life in this country and not placing one person's life behind anothers life convenience. And I will be continued to be amazed by the Christians who call themselves Christians and yet vote people in office that think it is okay for this country to sponsor a form of genocide that is called choice.
Run To State Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Too many liberals in this country so no, it will not be overturned.
AcesFull Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Roe v. Wade will not be overturned because none of the candidates would be likely appoint solidly pro-life justices to the Supreme Court. Obama and Clinton would appoint liberal judges and McCain would appoint moderate judges who would be acceptable to Kennedy and Specter.

I have no doubt that Huckabee would support a pro-life justice and one of the reasons I support him.
AcesFull Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Forgot one. Actually forgot two candidates. I have no doubt that Huckabee would support a pro-life justice and one of the reasons I support him. Huckabee has very little chance of being nominated and virtually no chance of being elected. Ditto for Ron Paul. If I am wrong, and the stars allign in just the right formation and Huckabee is out next president, then I would expect Huckabee to nominate judges who would be inclined to overturn Roe. If I am wrong and Ron Paul becomes president, I will paint my body red and streak across the Rupp Arena floor next season during the UK-U of L game while singing the Cardinals' fight song.

cch5432 Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 If it were overturned, it would be left up to the states instead of making it illegal altogether. I doubt it gets overturned anyways. Personally, I can't justify voting for someone who support but I believe is a grave evil.

LBBC, there are just as many people that call themselves Christians that support a war in a country that did NOT attack us. Some Christians think that is wrong. Some Christians think that any war is wrong. Some Christians don't believe in abortion, but also don't believe that it is their right to tell someone else what they can and cannot do with their own bodies. Lastly, some Christians don't judge others "Christian-ness".
HHSDad Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 It will not be overturned, but I can see this court making it less difficult for the states to put restrictions on abortion.
MoreheadEagle Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 It won't be overturned in my lifetime so that's probably the next 55-60 years. If it is overturned it will be quickly re-instated IMO. But it's very unlikely to be overturned and I think it needs to stay that way.
cshs81 Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 It will not be overturned because we as a country are not willing to put a mother in jail.
