Best Coaching Hire This Offseason

I agree rockcastleraiders, Harmon has a long way to go, but is still young in his coaching career. The one thing to think about when talking about coaches that have coached as long as Larkey is state titles with as many wins. Also, according to KHSAA Larkey has 233 wins with a 6-6 record last season. Larkey 0! Hilton, 1 maybe more, don't really know. Harp, Multiple. Hillard Howard multiple. Ivan McGlone 1, maybe more. Haywood multiple. Schnieder multiple. Glaser, multiple.

Rockcastleraiders, where are the state titles for Larkey? He has all those wins, but no state titles. Everybody else with as many wins as him has a state title.

Lets get this thread back on track. :thumb:

Hilton wasn't hired anywhere this offseason so he doesn't belong in this thread. If you want to debate Hilton vs Larkey, then that would deserve a thread of its own.

This may better be argued after the upcoming season....like for instance, what if Madison Southern's hire goes 7-3 in the regular season....now that would be a great pick!!!

French @ Boyle!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think in 5 years he will have had the most success!!

None of the guys that you mentioned got a new job this year, you need to read the thread title again. By the way Hilton has won 2. So again the answer to the question is Tom Larkey!!

Harlan County High and Coach Larkey without any QUESTION!

Looks like it's between Larkey of Harlan Co. and French of Boyle Co.Only time will tell, good luck to both Coaches and teams.

French, Harmon and Larkey are all great hires.

Mike Jackson at Ballard.

I think you should be looking at coaches hired last year because we dont know if the programs will improve until this year, so how can you judge a good hire right now. Different situations call for different hires for example Glasier at St. X, many wins but that is at St. X, I like him to coach a public school like Iroquis or a good 4a team like Valley and see how many rings he gets. Sometimes I think we lose focus on what the school can produce and not he coach. Great teams make a great coach, if you measure wins and loses. I am not saying coaching does not matter, but it is only half the battle.:walk:

It's a little early for this thread right now, anyway. Several schools in central Kentucky have yet to hire (Garrard, Lincoln, Madison Southern) and I'm guessing there are probably a few more out in the state who will be needing coaches as the spring goes along.

Mike Jackson @ Ballard. Larkey @ Harlan.

Coach McGlone has (2) titles: AAA (1978) & AA (2005). He also has (1) AA Runner-Up finish in 2006.

Hilton has (2) as well: (Bell Co. (1991) & Bourbon Co. (1987 I think)).
