Top 5 Country Music Singers

Featured Replies

I'd say currently it's hard not to have Brad Paisley or Toby Keith up there. Now if you're saying all time maybe not. But currently I'd say they're top five.

You finally realized he isn't Country. ;)
Have I ever said he was?

Garth is too much of a show boat for me.

It's a travesty to even mention Barf Brooks with the truly greats you have listed.

I have gotten a few dirty messages because I had Garth in my list and Johnny Cash was not :D

Also, I took a look at my favorite singers. I had a list of abou 25 names. I cut out bands like Montgomery Gentry, Sawyer Brown, Tracy Byrd, and Mark Chesnutt because they didn't have either the longevity or chart success of some of the others.

Even if you aren't a Garth fan, you can't deny the run he had in music and his influence. I am more of a fan of the SPOTLIGHT he brought to country music than whether or not he is country. People accused Hank Williams of being "too different" and Conway Twitty wasn't exactly "The Nashville Sound".

Yet again, I am not the biggest fan of his, I am not one of the crazy people that pay $500-$1500 (or more) for a concert ticket, or continue to buy box sets and lame new CD's of the same old stuff. I just recognize what he did for music and recognize that he had quite a few good songs.

Here is an amazing stat: Garth had more number one songs in a 9 year span than Randy Travis, Tracy Lawrence, Johnny Cash or Waylon Jennings had in their CAREERS

Hank Williams

Johnny Cash

George Jones

Dwight Yoakam

Willie Nelson

Marty Robbins

George Strait

Sorry. That is 7.

Suffice to say it's nobody who's come out in the past 25 years.

Johnny Cash

Loretta Lynn

Dolly Parton

Hank Williams

Patsy Cline

Give me Bluegrass any day over today's country.

George Strait

George Jones

Conway Twitty

Waylon Jennings

Jim Reeves

Jim Reeves

I wanted to put Jim Reeves because I really like him. Sawyer Brown is my favorite band, and Jim Reeves is probably my favorite CLASSIC singer.

I tried to sing his classic, "He'll Have To Go", on karaoke the other night and sounded like :creepy:. I scared a few people.:scared: Reeves had one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. It's sad he died so young.

Suffice to say it's nobody who's come out in the past 25 years.

I'll second that. Country today, seems to be aimed more in a Pop direction.

If you like Twang Pop, go for it I guess.

Some of today's Country is what would have been considered Rock back in the '60s and '70s.
