February 11, 200818 yr Merle Haggard George Jones Waylon Jennings Hank Williams,Sr. Johnny Cash Conway Twitty Alan Jackson George Strait (Jackson and Straight are two of a very few that even deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as the ones listed above) Some other that I really like are Mark Chestnut, Tracy Byrd an Darrell Singletary. As far as the female country singers there is...... Loretta Lynn Tammy Wynette Patsy Cline (those three by far were/are the best imo) and some others would be.... Sara Evans Martina Mcbride and Faith Hill (those two more that may not sing everything "traditional" country but their voices imo are amazing) So fine me for going way over limit - LOL. I realize that is much more than 5 but I love country music and especially traditional (real) country music and not the "drug store country" kind that a lot of it is today and they just call it country:rolleyes:.

February 11, 200818 yr I've noticed there's not a lot of women on these lists. Tammy Wynette would be my top female choice, actually probably top 5 with the men. Her "Stand By Your Man" was voted the best country song of all time a few years ago. BTW, her ex, Ol' Possum, came in second with "He Stopped Loving Her Today".

Country today, seems to be aimed more in a Pop direction. :thumb: Most of today's country is (with exceptions of Alan Jackson, George Strait, Sara Evans...etc..) One of my favorite songs is "Murder on Music Row", this is duet with George Strait and Alan Jackson, imo the song just tells it like it is a about Nashville today and what has happened to real country music.

February 11, 200818 yr Any list that does not include Garth Brooks is a list not worth having! For what he has accomplished in this genre of music is insane. He is definitely worth of a top-5 spot, maybe top-3!
