Maybe it is for another thread, but I don't think that I vote for McCain, rather, I vote for his stances on political issues. Likewise, I don't vote for Obama, rather, his political stances. What I am saying is that (while I won't vote for either of them) just because McCain is a liar in terms of how conservative he claims to be doesn't mean that I know identify with what Obama says.

I'm awfully close to reaching that decision myself...I'll wait and see how things play out when the primaries are over and the head-to-head campaigning starts. As of now, the only thing I'm sure of is that I won't vote for Hillary Clinton. Period. If she is the nominee, I'll vote Republican regardless of the candidate. However, should Obama win, I would give him serious consideration against McCain (I'm going to assume he'll get the Republican nomination). The more I see of McCain the less I like him and I just can't shake that feeling. I'm not ready to declare I won't vote for him, but I'd be watching closely to see if he can change my recent feelings about him, and whether there is something about Obama that I really like or dislike. Should it be Obama vs. McCain, I'd say I'm about 60/40 in favor of Obama right now.

I didn't realize that McCain was touting himself as a full fledge conservative. Heck, I've heard him refer to himself as a moderate. He does have some positions that tend to be favored by conservatives (pro military, pro intelligence, generally pro low tax notwithstanding the no votes on Bush's tax cuts, pro business etc) but admittedly he's not with the conservatives on every issue. I guess that makes him a make believe conservative in your mind. Not me. It makes him a moderate with some conservative stances. Ironic to me is the clamoring we've heard on this site from a lot of people (perhaps not you HHSDad but a lot of others) that we want our elected officials to put aside extreme idealogical positions and work with the other side. Seems like McCain's detractors on here feel that it should only be the Democrats moving to the middle and the Republicans should stay hard and fast with the hard conservative stances. That would be nice, but it just isn't going to happen. I'm curious to know why you think Obama is the paragon of honesty. You think he's been totally honest in re the funny real estate transaction involving the slum lord or whatever Hillary referred to him as? Me thinks Obama is not as pure as fresh snow on that one. Right now its easy for Obama to appear to be a honest liberal as that's the audience he's playing to in the primary. If he wins the primary, once the general election gets underway, I think you'll see him all of a sudden massaging his message to attract the moderates. Will that no longer make him an honest liberal, but rather a make believe Democrat? I think so. I hope come November you reconsider your thinking. While I'd prefer to have a full bottle of Woodford, I'll still take a half bottle of Woodford over a full bottle of Kentucky Tavern any day.

February 5, 200818 yr Who else is with me? I just can not vote for McCain. I don't like just about anything the man ever says. I don't trust him and I don't want him to be POTUS. I have read up as much as I can and weighed the options. Unless something major changes, in the general election, I will be casting my vote for Barack Obama. * I will not vote for Hillary Clinton, should she win the nomination. I really hope that Romney or Huckabee can make up some ground on McCain, though it is not looking very good. I will have a very difficult time voting for McCain and am hoping that it does not come down to him and Clinton. I really do not understand the Republicans backing McCain, he seems to have zero grasp of economics or the economy and has stated as much. His stances on stem cell research, marriage penalty, etc. plus his involvement in the gang of 14 cast doubt on his claim of being a conservative. What exactly are his qualifications? :confused:

February 5, 200818 yr I have some family members who I call yellow dog democrats meaning that if the democrats ran a yellow dog they would vote for it. I got to talk to them over the weekend and they were really upset with their party. They absolutely cannot believe that the Kennedy's are backing Obama and were saying for the first time they may pull Republican whether its Hillary or Obama. Trust me when I heard this I thought the sky may be falling.
