2. There's nothing wrong with large corporations but there need to be regulations in place to protect workers, the public, and their environment.

3. Healthcare is a right. I get this from my religious beliefs.

4. The government should not sponsor any religious organizations

5. Abortions should be safe, legal, and limited

6. Homosexuals have all the rights and privileges garunteed by the constitution.

When I think liberal I do think of those mentioned above but definitely social programs with money being handed out to "those in need", or in many cases, those who prefer a charity life style as opposed to a working class one. I am for ANYONE to have a happy life together with anyone that they choose, be in female or male, as long as they are consenting adults. EVERYONE has the right to grow old with anyone they love as a couple, no matter if its two males or two females. "Life Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness!"

 

You want to protect the sanctity of marriage? Then outlaw divorce as a start. Over 50% of male/female marriages end up in divorce, how is that helping marriage?

I believe that capital punishment should only be carried out if there is 100% proof that a person committed a murder, and that the murdered persons family would rather have he guilty person put to death, they should have the final say.

 

I thing that a waiting period isn't wrong for guns, we need stricter rules on sales of guns, BUT that any law abiding citizen should be able to carry a gun. There is no reason that one should be able to go to a gun show or pawn shop and just buy a gun without a background check, you don't need the gun now, you can wait the 7-14 days for the check to come back.

 

We need to makes sure jobs stay in the US.

 

We need strict controls on corperations, Those who knew about Enron and did nothing about it, and those who have casued the sub prime loan crises should be behind bars.

 

Even Bush has stated that global warming is real, everyone needs to work on controlling this.

On a final note, the democratic governor of Ohio was supported by several republicans and conservatives in the elections last year. He believes that abortion should be outlawed unless its rape, incest or puts the mothers life in danger.

 

Hillary stands out in the democratic candidates that sees that we might need at least some troops in Iraq, others, including some republicans think we should withdraw 100% of the troops. BTW, the Iraq defense minister wants the US to stay in Iraq until at least 2018, are you sure you want our troops there another 10 years?

Not at all. I don't consider left-wing a slur either. Liberal has become a bad word to some folks, using it almost as an insult. The people I'm thinking of are liberal for a variety of stances. Some are strongly in favor of social programs, others for wealth redistribution, others are very anti-war, and I didn't include anyone in my thinking who wouldn't consider themselves liberal.

 

I wonder how many on this site would allign themselves with all of these descriptors? Whether they be called liberal or progressive or whatever....

Why do you insist on defining a liberal as their stance on abortion? I know people who are fiscally conservative, pro-war, pro-death penalty, love and vote for GWB....and are support a woman's right to choose.

 

IMO, you cannot define a liberal or a conservative by the single issue of abortion.

 

If conservative means you are against abortion, then why is it that legal abortion has not yet been overturned.
