Why do you insist on defining a liberal as their stance on abortion? I know people who are fiscally conservative, pro-war, pro-death penalty, love and vote for GWB....and are support a woman's right to choose.

 

IMO, you cannot define a liberal or a conservative by the single issue of abortion.

 

If conservative means you are against abortion, then why is it that legal abortion has not yet been overturned.

 

It was my assumption that it was one of the defining issues. Knowledge for what actually is a liberal is what prompted this thread.

 

I assumed one thing and am learning that liberals view it another way.

 

On the last, we have addressed that many times. Abortion rights have been limited in several different ways by conservatives. ONe example being the partial birth abortion bill. The latest two appointments to the Supreme Court will hopefully go along way to overturning Roe V Wade.

 

With a SC decision, it is not a quick way to ban abortions but rather a slow process that unfortunately sees over 3,000 babies lose their lives everyday.

Jesus did encourage to give of our possessions and to care for the poor (which I agree with). But in my opinion, giving is very very very very different from being taxed. Maybe you disagree?

Don't agree that your list is more a liberal list than conservative. For instance, didn't someone point out that the top 25 states for charitable giving were red states? That would tend to knock out the feed the hungry and care for the poor from your list. Visit the prisoner? How is that a liberal cause? Turn the other cheek? Blessed is the peacemaker? Sounds like law enforecement to me which of course is a conservative issue. Someone sues you, you give them everything? Sounds like any conservative opponent who faced John Edwards in court. Environment? Don't think the conservatives want to destroy the environment, despite what some of the left would have you believe. Many of the biggest supporters of the environment are the gun toting hunters who are largely conservative.
