With a 10 player varsity roster player development gets thrown out the window. I know as a player, I wouldn't want to go back on the floor to score my 40th point in a blow out win (NOW I'M NOT TAKING AWAY FROM FERGUSON, he's obviously a stud player). I know I've gotten into it before with this subject. I just wish Elliott Co would sit more than 10 players, just for this purpose you get to play younger players in varsity situations where they can make varsity mistakes and go back to the bench and learn from the varsity coach. They "deserve" it in these blowouts. They might learn things from it.

 

This is no doubt a good win for Elliott Co. I'm looking forward to seeing them play (possibly @ Mason Co. but hopefully @ Richmond in the All A). I'll be cheering for you guys but only if my small school (Bishop Brossart) doesn't make it there.:thumb:

I'm just saying that's not the way I'd want to score 40. I am a bit critical, I'm happy they have 11 on the roster now, its a step. I still think you should carry 13-14 players on the varsity roster just for blowout purposes.

 

I'm happy for Elliott Co too. I'm glad they are winning. I'm not questioning class or "trying to get the thread closed." I guess I was just being a bit critical. Good win.:thumb:

I think the main reason Elliott Co played their starters for most of the game in because 2 years ago Coach Mays had a team go to Lewis Co and was in a situation that was close to this one. Up 30+ points going into the 4th quarter and he subs his starters out of the game. Lewis Co goes on a huge run and cuts the lead to within 10 points. Same type of Lewis Co team that was put on the floor tonight. Good shooter that can run off points in a hurry.

After watching Elliott Co. play several times over the last few years, I've seen some things I would disagree with in the coaching staff. However, the constant gripping about getting beat 30+ by other team's fans is not the fault of the Elliott players or the coaches. These kids play very hard, enjoy the game, and conduct theirselves as well or better than I did at that age. Sports resembles life in a lot of ways, you either get better or your pushed to the side. Elliott has been pushed to the side over the years, these kids have gotten better.

 

From what I've saw, Elliott has basically eight players. I think they have three very good subs in Maynard, Morgan & Centers. If I was coach, I would substitute more often during the first three quarters than the current staff does. IMO those three deserve more time than they get. That however is a coaching decision. Do you pull kids though because they are beating another team, I wasn't taught that. You deserve what you work for and I think the starting five have all worked very hard. Now when it comes to the benefit of the team, such as a tournament, there is no doubt the head coach should sub more than he does. Elliott plays a very aggressive style and it takes a toll, even when your 16 or 17.

 

I'm old enough to remember the great Clay Co. teams led by Ritchie Farmer, they basically played seven kids. They didn't press like Elliott, but IMO where more talented and beat most teams about the same as what everybody is seeing this year with Elliott. If you remember, it took a great team led by a great player to beat them in a rematch Farmer's senior year (Allan Houston) Lou. Ballard. The 16th region is going to have to get tougher, because it sure isn't EC's fault everybody is getting beat by 30. They have earned it.

I think that if Elliott County expects to make a deep run into the state tournament, they had better concentrate on strengthening their strengths and I think that is exactly what the coaching staff in doing.

I'm sure the kids on the bench heard how many points he had and probably wanted to get him back in to get 40 points. That's the way kids are and it's to be expected.

 

Shame on the coach for putting him back in just to (by all appearances) get 40 points in a 30+ point blowout. If they now have an 11 man bench, NO STARTER should have played more than a couple mins into the 4th quarter. Their conditioning will be fine and they didn't need to play that much anyway with another game tomorrow. I don't think anyone would complain about the 30+ point blowouts if their starters were not in the games late on a regular basis. Most coaches on the losing end of those 30+ point blowouts aren't going to start pressing the reserves once the dogs are called off. Who cares if you win by 15 or 30+?? Personally, I would rather win by 15 and get my reserves some big game experience rather than having to put them in a pressure situation later on when it really counts and them be overwhelmed.

Sounds like the coach could use some sensitivity training........he is routinely hurting his opponents feelings.........I think after a good talking to he would realize the importance of letting his opponents leave the gym with a warm fuzzy feeling of only being beaten by 15 or 20.

 

What would happen if EC took every starter out and played only subs after halftime of these blowouts? They lose conditioning......thats what........then when a close game makes it necessary for them to play 4 quarters they then have a increased chance of injury.

 

They wont lose conditioning by not playing the 4th quarter. You build conditioning in practice.

Ferguson went out at the 7:00 mark in the fourth. he came back in at 2:48

and played one min and back out. I didnt have to spin it because i have it on film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

You are wrong about the second part. He came out with 26.7 seconds to go after hitting 2 free throws. They did have someone ready to come in for him with about 1:30 to go, but there where no dead balls.

I believe Elliott County has to have the longest threads of any school this year.

 

Has to be a record.

 

One post about the score of the game, then 80 more about Elliott running up the score.

 

Obviously they like to run the score up and are enjoying it, but my answer is If you dont like it then "Beat them".
