Do you tell the kids not to shoot?

 

No you do not. I think that if the subs get in the game, you should not tell them to not shoot. Some coaches do, however and it is sad. These kids should get just as much opportunity to shine when they can as the other kids do. I think if they had scored 200, but the subs got to all play and contribute then it wouldn't be much of an issue... but when a few kids don't even get to play, and a starter is in late in the 4th quarter so he can score his 40th point, then it looks a little bad.

What are they supposed to do? Stop playing at halftime?

The game was over about three minutes into the 3rd quarter so there was no reason for any of Elliott's starters to even play the 4th quarter especially with a game tomorrow. If Ferguson would have gotten hurt at the end of the game you just ruined the season for all of these kids that have worked so hard to get where their at.

I know, that's the point I tried to make in my post above. That's just wrong... especially if it is a reserve and they don't get much playing time to begin with.

Looked to me they left the kid in so they could score over 100. JMO.

Isn't it wonderful to live in a country where we can hang out in the comfort of our own abodes and openly question, without fear of retribution, the substitution patterns of a man who has coached at his particular high school for 27 years!

 

This man and this school have taken their fair share of head peelings without anyone coming to their defense on the world wide web. Now that he is administering a few of his own--people cry foul.

My suggestion to all the area teams is show up, play your best game, and take your thumping like a man. And then be quiet.

Thats one way to look at it, however, Elliott is just that much better. Its not like they are full court pressing the entire game, they play hard defense that leads to a lot of easy baskets and they shoot a lot of 3's, 17 of 36 tonight.

Sounds like the coach could use some sensitivity training........he is routinely hurting his opponents feelings.........I think after a good talking to he would realize the importance of letting his opponents leave the gym with a warm fuzzy feeling of only being beaten by 15 or 20.

 

What would happen if EC took every starter out and played only subs after halftime of these blowouts? They lose conditioning......thats what........then when a close game makes it necessary for them to play 4 quarters they then have a increased chance of injury.

No, not at all. But it sounds like some of their starters remained in there late in the game. To me, if my team were up by over 30 late in the 4th quarter, I would have all reserves in the game. I know they don't have a deep bench, but still.

With a 10 player varsity roster player development gets thrown out the window. I know as a player, I wouldn't want to go back on the floor to score my 40th point in a blow out win (NOW I'M NOT TAKING AWAY FROM FERGUSON, he's obviously a stud player). I know I've gotten into it before with this subject. I just wish Elliott Co would sit more than 10 players, just for this purpose you get to play younger players in varsity situations where they can make varsity mistakes and go back to the bench and learn from the varsity coach. They "deserve" it in these blowouts. They might learn things from it.

 

This is no doubt a good win for Elliott Co. I'm looking forward to seeing them play (possibly @ Mason Co. but hopefully @ Richmond in the All A). I'll be cheering for you guys but only if my small school (Bishop Brossart) doesn't make it there.:thumb:

Johnathan Ferguson has forty to lead the Elliott Lions past the Lewis Lions.

 

Ferguson got his last two points with 15 or so seconds to go:eek:. Starters didn't get much rest. I think Coach Mays couldn't stand the fact that Lewis was only down nine at the half......

 

It will be interesting to see how Elliott fans spin this to Ferguson in the game so late.

 

Ferguson went out at the 7:00 mark in the fourth. he came back in at 2:48

and played one min and back out. I didnt have to spin it because i have it on film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

... ThatsBut why is he in the game this late all i want to know. Was Lewis on a late run to make it a ballgame. Just seems odd that he is in the game this late without a side motive...

 

It's really no one's concern why he was in except for the coaching staff. They are calling the shots and are 13-1. I Trust their judgement:dancingpa

I thought Elliott played really well all the way around. Good job lion's.
