January 10, 200818 yr When you get to the point that others matter more than you having a good time, you have grown up. When you are willing to sacrifice your life and your time for others' benefit, you have grown up. Exactly:thumb:
January 10, 200818 yr I think two things lead you to maturity. Hard times and additional responsibilities. When you have hard times, you can become a better person because of it, or let it beat you down. Added responsibilities can be sobering. Just ask any new parent. We've raised a generation of "its all about me" kids, and now we're going to pay the price for it. They've been coddled and given everything they want. They haven't learned from hard times, because we never let them fail. It might hurt their self-esteem. It will be interesting to see what the Millenials make of themselves.

I can say that this has changed me quite a bit. At 24 I have been married and divorced. This experience was an eye-opener and a dramatic shock. While I still can have fun with my friends there are certain aspects of my personality that have been altered by my having been forced to mature. I am not saying I am completely grown up, by no means at all, however I find there are sime things that I don't understand what or why they do them anymore. If anything I think that this growing experience has forced me to look at life in a much less self-gratifying way than they do.
January 10, 200818 yr Alot of you know me and at times I have to be a grown up. However, when I am out and about and having a good time I still feel like I am 21 and again very far from it. Again there are times when you have to be mature and all. Stay young and energetic and be happy. JD
January 10, 200818 yr 3 Time.... shouldn't your name be 5 Time? hee hee hee See, I am not grown up yet.
January 10, 200818 yr I like what everyone has had to say so far. I also want to add, when you start taking responsibility for your own actions, another sign you are grown up. When you look at a loved one who is sick, and wish that was you instead, you are grown up. When you look at your child asleep and your heart warms and you feel as though you can't love anymore than you do at that moment, you are grown. Now, on a serious note LOL....when your best friend is any hair color that was meant to cover stubborn gray. When you start getting makeup for covering little wrinkles When you become excited because you find shampoo for mature hair. When you start needing stool softners. When you can't sleep past 5 am no matter what time you went to bed. When you look over and see a "baby" driving a car and just can't belive they can be 16. When you say, "boy, she is still just a baby, I remember like yesterday what happened 18 years ago" When your parents don't seem old anymore. When people start saying that the songs you listen to are the "oldies" and they were popular when you were in high school. When you start telling your kids....when I was your age....I thought I would NEVER do that LOL LOL When cars you used to drive are now classics! When movies you saw in high school are now being played on AMC. When events you remember like yesterday are now on the History Channel. Remembering when you were a kid and looking at your mom thinking that her age was old....and now you are that age. When you see styles that you wore in high school are now coming back into style.

I have grown out, however...

January 10, 200818 yr Ok, this is kind of an in depth conversation that me and a few of my buddies have been having. What exactly are the steps that you need to take to actually become an adult? I am 24 years old, a college graduate, have a great job, and I still feel and act like a 21 year old college kid. So I ask you, what exactly are the steps that one must take to finally be a "grown-up?" I don't think that being a grown up has an age. I think that when you start to putting day to day responsibilites first before fun stuff is a sign of growing up. While I am 30'ish someting years old ...I still act like a 21 yr old at times. I believe it keeps you in better health (physically & mentally) to act a bit silly at times. Plan and simple....it is knowing that there is a time and place for everything.
January 10, 200818 yr Author All of these respones are great! Myself, and alot of my buddies are early in our professional careers, single, and I guess starting to feel like there is just more to life. I like the response from ladiesbballcoach the most! I knew that BGP was the only place to turn to for life advice!
January 15, 200818 yr A wise man once said you can only be young once but you can be immature forever! (Bill Spaceman Lee) I live by this motto.

I see now what my parent's were trying to tell me. I have so many responibilities (kids, bills, work) that it is hard to find the fun in life sometimes. But, a good tuesday night with the guys playing Guitar Hero helps me make it through the rest of the week.:ylsuper:
January 15, 200818 yr I say be yourself and live your life the way you want to. That seems to work for me pretty well!
