Gibbs has looked lost a couple of times this season.

The team rebounded nicely making the playoffs. Not a bad way for one of the top 5 coaches of all time to step away.

Of course, I don't have any sources, no flight logs, no wire transfers, but I have a gut feeling that Cowher will be tops on that list in Wash. and the jaw resurfaces in the NFC.

I saw that coming before the season, but then he got an extension... So I'm pretty surprised.

He was still working on the same 5 year contract he originally signed from what I heard. They said he was on year 4 and Snyder wanted to extend him, but he wouldn't.

WASHINGTON - Barely one month after signing a new deal to be the head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks, Bobby Petrino is back in the NFL. Petrino was hired as the next Redskins head coach early Tuesday morning after a brief meeting with owner Daniel Snyder.

"Today was a day of decision," Petrino said during a brief interview in Washington D.C. "It was difficult on one side, very easy on the other. It was difficult to leave Arkansas, the staff, players, fans. The timing of it probably is the thing that made it most difficult. Coming to Washington was the easy part."

Last January, Petrino left as head coach at Louisville to take over in Atlanta, agreeing to a five-year, $24 million contract. Then just under one month ago Petrino signed a five year $2.85 million per year contract to coach the Razorbacks.

Petrino said he didn't speak with anyone from Arkansas about the leaving until Tuesday.

"It was one of the most difficult things I've had to do," he said. "I truly believe from the bottom of my heart that I made the right decision."

"I knew I wanted to come back and coach in the NFL," Petrino said. "I'm very excited to get back and work with these tremendous athletes."

Terms of Petrino's new deal in Washington have not been released.

Maybe this is just me, but I think we should change the thread title to Joe Gibbs retired. I know when I first looked at the thread and saw that it said Joe Gibbs is out in Washington, I thought it met he might have got fired or something. To I just think we should change it to something that says how he retired, but that is just my opinion.

Didn't the Skins have an assistant head coach on staff that was designated to step up and be head coach if Gibbs left?

That's against the rules, Mortenson is an idiot.

Mortenson reported on Mike and Mike that if Gibbs left that Williams would get the position. He, Mortenson, thought that was a clause in William's contract. Mortenson came back on one minute later to say that William's contract has no clause like that in it. He said that he called Redskin's front office and asked. So, I'm guessing that the Redskin's called Mortenson, instead, to tell him that he was wrong.
