If there is a better sophomore in DIII than Shawn Easton from Dayton I'll be surprised to see him, and yes, I have seen all the DIII teams so far this year.

Bryan is good but didn't have a great night the evening I saw him. Pohlgeers was overshadowed by the upper classmen the night we played them. Another name I'll throw out to look for in the future is Mike Young from Bellevue. While he is not yet in the absolute top tier of sophomore players, by his senior year I'd expect him to be among the elite in his class. Same goes for Pelle at Silver Grove. Not quite there yet, but I'd expect to see him rise to the top as well.

What about Ricardo Johnson from Holmes.

I'd add the Polgheers kid from Beechwood. Knows how to play. Just needs some more strength.

 

I remember a Pohlgeers from Beechwood in the 80's, he was about 6'7 I think. If its his boy, this kid could shoot up.

Your right, Newport has some quality sophs as well. Mcdaniel,Housley,Luther and Greene I believe. ONe of these might be Juniors but they are strong in the soph class.

I also remember a Roy Eastin from Dayton in the mid 80's who could light it up. Alot of these names are sounding very familiar in the 9th region this year with Polhgeers/Eastin/etc. I am not familiar with Young from Bellevue but its good to hear they have some young talent coming up. I thought Pelle was a Sr this year? Or is there another Pelle coming up? Probably a stupid question as they never seem to stop showing up out in the Grove.

Cody Collins, Sizemore, are sophmores. I believe Housley is a Jr.

Gabbard from Boone is the best I have seen.

 

I agree. It's not just his skills that make him a great player. This kid knows the game of basketball and always plays with a ton of heart! He is a playmaker and makes the players around him better.

IMO Gabbard is without question the best all around basketball player in the soph class. He knows the game and does everything well and understands his job.

I think that's the job of any point guard. Point guards are supposed to be playmakers and make the players around them better by giving them assists.

Who does Meyer play for? I'm not familiar with Collins. Along with Flannery, Popp, Gabbard, McLeish, and Kowolonek, Pangallo is one of the better guards in the sophomore class in N.KY. IMHO, guards often tend to be more athletic and better all-around players.

Meyer is usually the 1st guy off the bench for NCC has nice handles, smart and ok shot. Both are very talented.

Forward Ben Bessler and PG Jake Hils of St. Henry are already seeing a lot of varsity time.

Pelle is a senior... And thankfully there are no more on the roster... yet...

 

I wasn't really impressed with the Pohlgeers kid... He didn't really stand out when I saw them.

 

Bryan can play, no doubt, he is good. I did have some question as to whether he moved too fast for his own good sometimes, and would force passes that weren't there. I remember he got quite upset a few times with his teammates too when they didn't handle some of his "prettier" but also more unexpected passes. Somewhat understandable, but a no-no from you PG position.

 

I will agree with you about the Young kid from Bellevue. He isn't there yet, but has solid DIII size for a post and a decent skill set array of face up and back to basket moves for a young kid. Though I still don't think he quite measures up to the others mentioned.

 

What makes the Eastin kid good is that as soon as he crosses half court he is within his shooting range, he has the dribble skills to drive around defenders playing him tight, and has decent height to go inside and more than decent height to go above you if need be. Whats been impressive also is his willingness to go to the boards and his unselfishness with the ball. In the games I've seen I bet the kid has been in the top 2 in scoring, rebounds, and assist. He can be his own worst enemy at times too though, and sometimes his shot selection shows his youth....

 

Quite good young talent at the 10th grade level in NKY DIII...
